Oh, let's go back beyond Sarah Palin. The Brooks Brothers riots of 2000, and the candidate's brother leading a part of the third world country he wanted to rule? Maybe 1992 and Poppy pardoning everybody who could have implicated him in Iran-Contra? Iran-Contra, for that matter, or Ronnie's guys interfering with the Iranian hostage negotiations? Nixon? Just, Nixon? Goldwater?

I could go to when Ike rolled over for McCarthy, or even the republicans trying to overthrow FDR. It's a pattern.

Agreed - As I finish the Heilbrunn book, I am probably going to write a long piece on the Mussolini lovers and the attempted FDR coup. I started where I did just to be sure we operated within the memory span of people not as involved as you and me.

About a week, 10-days ago, KO had a quote from Orange Nero basically saying what Reagan did in 1980. "You know, this reporter, Evan Gershkovich, we'll get him released after the election." It means that Trump wins, all the prisoners get released, just like Reagan and Iran. Oh, and you forgot the strange vote totals out of Ohio in 2004. Speaking of 2004, I'm still searching for the cyanide tablet that I was going to take if Dubya won.

I’m coming down with a cold so I’ll be.brief. The Republican Party is now the party of fascists and Christian Nationalists, both of who embrace violence to achieve their ends. We can and must defeat them.

I don't know how many seats there are in Juan Merchan's courtroom, and I don't know how many GOPers took some of those seats. But what if you, TC, and Robert Hubbell, who I've already proposed this to, got a bunch of subscribers in and out of NYC, to go to that courtroom and take seats, preventing Trumpists from being able to be there? Yeah, it's a crazy idea, but I'd happily drive down... probably Sunday night, and get up bright and early the next morning to get to the courtroom.

Expand full comment

That's a good idea!

So, if there are any of the TAFM readers on the east coast who want to go down to the court and stay overnight Sunday night/Monday morning (which is what it takes to maybe get a seat), I'll be very proud of any of you who do. I do wonder if the people in charge know in advance how many Trump Army types are coming and reserve seats for them - they come in with Trump through the back doors.

Thanks TC. It is a good idea. It took me a while to think of it.

Very worthwhile thinking going on.

Judge Merchan needs to find a way to keep anyone in the red tie uniform out of the courtroom, on the grounds that their presence is a form of jury intimidation. I suppose Bragg would need to make that request.

Doesn’t trump have reserved seating for his “friends”?

And I got banned from FB and twit just before the 2020 election for saying that chump and Rupert were following Goebbel’s propaganda rules. I wasn’t prescient, just knew what WW2 was all about. Rupert and Ailes started that from the inception of Fox not News. The tea party racists just took off like a rocket. These actions were not secret. We have been swimming in a sea of red herrings for too long. Now, the sea is as contaminated as the real ones with red herrings as big as blue whales.

I posted this article from Joyce Vance on FB, with quoted text, and it got immediately flagged as spam and removed. I did a test, and reposted without the quoted text, and specifically explained why I was posting it. It got flagged a few days later as spam, and they called it "deceptive". I challenged both, and haven't heard anything since.

Took a break from packing, discovered all my META accounts were locked.

Hmmm

Seems META removed one of my posts ... FROM 2017? And it seems I may have shared or sent symbols, praise, or support of people and organizations META defines as DANGEROUS or I may have followed them.

Ur?

Let's take this in reverse order.

Followed them?

Wut?

So, it's illegal to follow certain accounts on this platform because they may be dangerous? Okay. Can't find THAT rule in the Terms of Service, but okay. If the accounts are so dangerous that *I* get suspended just for following them, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ALLOWING THEM ON THIS PLATFORM IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Who's running this thing? Drunks? Children? Insane people? Billionaires? (but I repeat myself) Who?

The post was from 2017. <redacted dangerous individual> was president.

And that post was A SCREEN SHOT OF THAT GUY'S COMMENT ON THIS PLATFORM ABOUT A MAJOR NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE THAT WAS IN ALL THE PAPERS, NEW MEDIA, AND ON THIS VERY PLATFORM.

Now, that dangerous individual was eventually removed from this platform for being a dangerous individual, but META HAS SINCE ALLOWED HIM BACK ON.

But you're not allowed to follow him, I guess?

Yeah.

Link to the post in its entirety at the end

Now, to the oh so ironic crux of the matter: The person and/or organization I shared was THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the time and also THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. And, yeah, maybe that is a dangerous outfit indeed, but I would suggest to you, Mr Mark Zuckerberg, that there are plenty more dangerous governments out there and you let THEM on this platform and don't suspend people for following them.

Seriously, what in the hell?

"We have long known that the 2024 race was going to be a test of character. The entire Republican Party has now failed that test." It is also a test of our national character, and it will be self-selecting - we either win our democracy or suffer the loss of the country we have come to love and the unique principles of peaceful self-government it reflects...... Quo vadis? Which way will we go?

They are at least sufficiently intelligent to realize that, but for service to their masters, they are otherwise wildly unemployable at the level of income, benefits, and perks that they now receive. So, acclimated to this lifestyle, they do whatever they are told. Neither conscience nor self-disgust intervenes.

Logically speaking Tom, you go too far with 'all' Republicans, 'most' Republicans would be more descriptive. As for fascism I totally agree the majority of the former Republican Party are full on fascists. The trumpster, however, is too stupid to even know what fascism is. Every time he opens his mouth his increasing stupidity is obvious. Boebert, Gaetz, Greene, Trump, and Tuberville, are indicative of the depths to which the once acceptable GOP has fallen to find persons to whom their semi-literate base can relate. Their other formative base, America's oligarchy, is far more frightening, because they aren't stupid, just overwhelmed with greed. It is they, with their billions to support the moronic former Republicans, who are capable of defeating democracy and plunging us back to feudalism.

As someone in a very blue corner of a blue state that had an 84% turnout in 2020, I fully endorse the urges to "get out the vote" but can't really do much to accomplish it. Even my hands are at the point where writing postcards is difficult. But I think what we ALL can do is get the WORD out. My suggestion is this:

Make a list of bullet points that summarize various proposed by the GOP. Project 2025 is a good place to start. Whenever the future of our country comes up with friends or family, go down the list in a way that suggests you are curious, not condemning, of the point. Listen to the pros if any come up instead of your listener just urping. DON"T tell them where the ideas come from until you have a sense of whether your listener is coming from. If s/he keeps going "yeah, that's what we need" it's a lost cause. If there are any doubts, then at the end say, "you know, there's this thing called Project 2025 (or the trump interview with Time or similar sources) Do you know about it? No? Well, you can always look it up and see what it says. But I just told you a lot of things it says."

Let them "do their own research." The GOP is PROUD of these points and isn't going to hide them, so it doesn't matter whether your listener goes to Fox or MSNBC to learn more.

The GOP has handed us a roadmap. Follow it and let folks know.
