I just got this great review at Amazon from my new good friend, James R. Benn. Thanks much Judith, for turning me on to these books. Clean Sweep tells the history of the Eighth Air Force Fighter Command in the European Theater during WWII. While there is enough historical data and aircraft development detail to satisfy the most informed reader, Tom Cleaver also tells the stories of individual pilots. He carefully weaves their narrative into the larger framework of how the Mighty Eighth approached establishing air superiority in the skies above Europe. These first-hand accounts, representing combatants from both sides, paint a realistic—sometimes terrifying—picture of what pilots and aircrew faced on a daily basis. Highly recommended.
I know how fabulous it feels when someone whose work you already admire offers you spontaneous praise. and that goes at least double when that praise is as on the money as this particular praise was.
He highlights what I see as your greatest skill....the ability to make the big "sweep" of war so very personal through the lives and accounts of the people on the front line.
I expect you will use that same skill in the book you must write about your screenwriting life in Hollywood, right?
What a tribute to those who suffered in the battle against fascist horror in that time of world history. The truth told of the struggle, of individuals and the wide sweep. A nail in the coffin of the narrative that fascism ain’t that bad.

good for you, Tom.
I recently read the first book in the Billy Boyle series, and I enjoyed it immensely. I liked Clean Sweep a lot too.
The second one, "First Wave" which is the North African invasion, is damn good too.
I picked up the first Billy Boyle novel, but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. Looking forward to it.
I'm pretty sure you'll like it. It's the one that introduced most of the Major Characters.
Congratulations! How cool!
Wonderful! Congratulations!

Congratulations! You deserve all praise.

Well done TC! (I'm not surprised.)
