By now all subscribers should have gotten the email from Substack about Substack Notes going “live” today.
Feel free to prove me wrong, but my money is on this show descending to “Twitter 2021” level before my birthday - that’s 90 days. So far, despite being asked by several writers from the first beta test, they have yet to fix things so that all writers who post have the name of their substack page and a subscription link showing on their posts. When you can’t take care of the small things, successfully taking care of the big things looks less likely.
I have specifically liked Substack because it ISN’T Twitter/FB/The rest of the Bullshit. But then I also think 90% of the past 50 years of “progress” isn’t too progressive. But the Kool Kidz in Silly Con Valley keep finding ways to avoid being labeled “otherwise unemployable.”
If you’re going to use it, feel free to post anything from here that interests you.
I’ll be happy to be proven wrong.
You can support That’s Another Fine Mess with a paid subscription for only $7/month or $70/year, saving $14. Your support with a paid subscription - now that my partner is gone and the financial situation here has changed - will be deeply appreciated.
Comments are for paid subscribers.
I read it but I am not sure I even understand the point of Notes !!
Sounds redundant but maybe I am missing how exactly it will expand Substack. Also, hate it when people mess too early with a good thing!!!
BTW, got you another nephew yesterday- gave him a gift subscription. He lives in Nashville. A professor at Vanderbilt.
Wild and crazy with 3 wild and crazy kids and a grounding, smart wife. Only 18 more nephews, 19 nieces to go.
Substack seems to be scratching for traction and revenue in light of their impending round of new funding. Like Carol, I don't really see the point of notes and don't understand the "Restack" option that now appears with Like and Comment.
The good news is that I still like the writers I follow here and continue to learn from them daily. As long as that holds true, I can deal with the BS just like I do with FB while staying in touch with friends.
