This song came to mind immediately right after the Saturday shooting so I posted it in several spots and then of course this morning we awoke to jarring news… Good for TC eliciting suggestions from us all. I’ve always loved that song and would agree that it is haunting, as are aspects of our times. We can win and we will!!!
Yes ! That's what I said they should have been playing for the Detroit rally - they had Joe-Town sign & needed a shout out to Motown - I thought they should be playing the entire Marvin Gaye album as I often do - Mercy.
Mine has been the Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie”. A little fun personal history about this one. The Dead hadn’t played this song in 20 years and broke it out again in 1991 at their first shows (in Oakland, CA) after the first Gulf War broke out. It was very surreal.
Here are the lyrics.
Please don't dominate the rap, Jack
If you've got nothing new to say
If you please, don't back up the track
This train's got to run today
I spent a little time on the mountain
I spent a little time on the hill
Heard some say: Better run away
Others say you better stand still
Now I don't know, but I been told
It's hard to run with the weight of gold
Other hand I have heard it said
It's just as hard with the weight of lead
Who can deny? Who can deny?
It's not just a change in style
One step done and another begun
And I wonder how many miles?
I spent a little time on the mountain
Spent a little time on the hill
Things went down, we don't understand
But I think in time we will
Now, I don't know but I was told
In the heat of the sun a man died of cold
Keep on coming or stand and wait
With the sun so dark and the hour so late
You can't overlook the lack, Jack
Of any other highway to ride
It's got no signs or dividing lines
And very few rules to guide
I spent a little time on the mountain
I spent a little time on the hill
I saw things getting out of hand
I guess they always will
Now, I don't know, but I been told
If the horse don't pull you got to carry the load
I don't know whose back's that strong
Maybe find out before too long
One way or another
One way or another
One way or another
This darkness got to give
(Repeat 2x)
Here’s a classic 1970, very nicely rostered version. 😁
I have been so stressed, so I've been listening to "Put a little love in your heart" by Jackie DeShannon. I listen to it before I go to bed & it soothes me some.
At this point I’m exhausted and depleted from worry. I have to let it go because I'm getting too old for this— I gave a bunch of money until recently. I have to try and trust our voting system though it’s hard now because the Supreme Court is so corrupted. I do pray for us all.

well, last week I would have plumped for "What have you done for me lately." This week it could be Stones: "Sympathy for the Devil" or "Stupid Girl."
For a long time it has been "We Gotta get Out of this Place."
The National Anthem of Americans in Vietnam. :-)
If it's the last thing we ever do...

“You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Stones…
Marvin is an excellent choice, I also like the Temps Ball of Confusion.
Marvin Gaye....one of my absolute favorite singers, gone far too soon.
Perfect, Tom! Thank you.
Great choice!

Exactly right, TC. Exactly right.
