Every once in awhile, it’s good to find out something is going to happen that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Democrats, Republicans, contemporary politics, the future of the country, or anything else we all can’t help but obsess over these days.
Yeah, the Hillerman's are great. There's one thing I will pass on. I don't know if the stories as adapted will use the same underlying structure as Hillerman used in writing the novels, but the underlying structure (and it's there in every one of them, for those who pay attention to story structure - like we writers). The stories use the traditional three act structure. At the end of the first act, the investigator meets the guilty party. The second act throws suspicion on everyone but the guilty party, And in the third act, the investigator confronts the guilty party. It's all done very creatively, knowing the structure will not help a reader solve the mystery because nothing is given away. But at each point when a "reveal" comes, you have the reaction of "Oh, of course!" Because it's all been set up, all the links are there, there's no funny business with the investigation.
Thanks for info regarding the three part structure of murder mysteries. I just finished watching Midsomer Murders on PBS and sure 'nuff the story unfolded as you described.
Thanks for this. Sounds wonderful. AND for some moregood news....had dinner last night with my nephew who got your 4 books for Christmas from me. He has read them all and loved them! I asked for a review to convey.....he appreciated greatly your personalizing the different battles by going more deeply into the lives of the people who were there. His only frustrations were the few times you mentioned a great photo but it was not there in the book. He thought maybe copyright issues?? Overall, you got high ratings from a discerning young nuclear engineer!!
This is beyond "good" news - it is GREAT news! I got hooked on Hillerman years ago...his books are story-rich, culture-rich and complex - all of which make a deep dive into Navajo land a true delight.
Thank you! I’ve read all of Hillerman’s books and loved each one. I will definitely be watching the episodes on tv. Hope they measure up to the original stories.
If this world was flat I'd still be out on the edge at tomorrow's first sunrise, so thanks TC, for expanding my kindle list. Good timing, the winds have turned to come north from Antarctica and now I can look forward to some new reads as winter arrives.
Sounds wonderful! And I am just finishing The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich, who won a Pulitzer for it, I would highly recommend!

Thanks for the heads-up, TC. I’ll look forward to some good writing and production value.
Well, just from the list of places they did locations on, we'll be getting production value.
Your happiness is catching, Tony. I'm glad that I started the morning with SOME ACTUAL GOOD NEWS. A'he'hee (Thank you, in Navajo)
Well, that is indeed good news.
Wonderful! I have read all of these novels. Also have extensively traveled and hiked in the area.
