SMITH WILL INDICT TRUMP THIS WEEK

News has broken last night and this morning that Jack Smith is bringing his grand jury back into session this week. Legal observers believe that - given the news of the past week - this is the moment he will seek an indictment of former president Trump for either the Mara-A-Lago documents investigation or the January 6 investigation (or both). As MSNBC legal affairs analyst Glenn Kerchner pointed out, given the operation of federal courts under the Speedy Trial Act, this is literally the last moment that such an indictment can happen with any chance of wrapping up the trial before the main election season in 2024.

As Kerchner pointed out, the nightmare scenario would be Trump elected while the trail is unresolved, given that he would then have the power to order the Department of Justice to drop the case.

Jen Psaki’s MSNBC show today is a must-watch (it rebroadcasts at 4pm local). She interviewdd James Comey, who sounded the alarm for what I would call a “ten-alarm fire” regarding the possibility Trump’s re-election and a “Retribution Presidency.” He went into all the things Trump would be able to do, and how the system would not be able to block them. “A rogue presidency is something the Framers never contemplated.” She also interviewed Kerchner. There are extended interviews on the MSNBC YouTube channel.

Looks like this week is going to be must-watch cable news.
