my everyday assumption is that I'm probably the craziest PERSON in ANY parking lot. but crazy in my own way, not in a way some Republican Scumbag tells me to be.
I'm trying to remember if there have been Democrats responding to SOTU addresses who've gone to that particular purgatory the up-and-coming young Repugs do who've responded to Democrats, but I never remember those responses unless they're PARTICULARLY pathetic.
Other than Scarlet, I saw nothing which.might cause me to tune back in. Compared to the guy doing The President, Chevy Chase or Joe Piscopo were over the top hilarious.
She was hilarious! I read another take (a written version) yesterday in which "Katie Britt" kept referring to her children by name, each time calling them something different and weird. Thanks for the link. I'll be enjoying this for a long while!
I would also watch a split screen (sound off) with Scarlet Johansson and Katie Britt delivering their monologues🤯🤣. Thanks TC for your vigilant and forever clever wordsmithery❤️🤗!
The response wasn't for everyone, just for Fundamentalists. The GOP no longer campaigns to represent "all the people." In fact, Trump is telling "marginals" to leave. It's why they're going to lose.
Really good point, Tom. I watched it--even though I could scarcely believe what I was seeing and hearing. NOW the whole performance makes even more sense. I guess I wasn't so far off the mark when I jeeringly called the whole rebuttal "Dominionist bait".
I caught the drift, but quite a few local people (definitely not Anglo Saxon white type folk) are eager to vote for trump. Guess there’s a lot of self-loathing amongst the brown folk locally…
I missed it, but I'll catch up on Peacock. I watched "American Fiction" twice in the last two days. incredibly smart movie (even the books in Monk's agent's office were extremely smart...Owen Barfield and Apollinaire--my favorite French poet). considering how shitty movies have gotten, this was an amazing year. at least three of the nominated movies are excellent, although why I still give half a fuck about the Oscars is obviously some odd vestige of my ten-year-old self. I watch because of the outrageous levels of fashion and recent "procedures." I'm getting back a lot of money from the IRS this year (nearly five figures), but it's nothing compared with the Oscar Botox Budget. I also used to enjoy mocking the hideous "special material." remember Rob Lowe and the midget Snow White? I'll be watching with my best friend, who is no stranger to "special material," since he used to orchestrate the horrible Tony awards every year.
More than one person said the SOTU response wasn't meant for all Americans but just Trump's evangelical base. The first thing I noticed when I traveled to South America is how rich the women's voices are there--they don't constrict them like a lot of American women do.
Apparently the "baby girl voice" that Katie Britt used in the SOTU response, so memorably parodied by ScarJo, is an actual, real-live thing. Even still, Sen. Britt laid it on super thick:
I did look up a campaign ad of hers and while it is not nearly as breathy as the SOTU response, the register and cadence are real. This is what is done to a lot of girls in the South.
Actually, the former Associated Press (AP) reporter, JONATHAN KATZ, busted Senator Kate Britt in a 7 minute Video on TikTok.
Britt's widely trashed disinformation scam used a real sex-trafficking Cartel case that occurred in MEXICO between 2004-2008.during Bush's Presidency.

Aside: my wife and I were in the bullfight arena in Cancún and a couple was taking seats with the wife whining, "why do we have to drink this funny two-X beer?" Looked like her BF/husband/whoever had searched Cancún to buy Budweisers, most likely at a premium price. For our part, my wife and I were thrilled to have all the cheap, and good, Mexican beer we wanted!
Tell you a story about that - in 2000, the (new) Bride and I went on a delayed honeymoon to the 2000 Oberammergau Passion Play and then northern Italy and Tuscany. We were on a tour and the food was mostly mediocre - attempts at American food from a bad Denny's in Keokuk, Iowa..... We had eggs for breakfast in Venice that i swear were left over from the 5th Army in 1944, in a country with some of the finest food in the world. I asked the tour director why we were getting such bad "American" food and he said that most American tourists won't eat local (foreign) food - they want "American food", so they get the wretched stuff we were fed on most of the trip. We had a free day in Florence and ate the local fare - it was marvelous. Some day we will go back and eat on the local economy.....
When I was spending three years in the Far East in the Navy, I decided I was going to make the most of my experience. I became friends with local people where we were, was occasionally included in invitations for social events, and did other things "untypical of an American sailor." We got a new Division Officer in 1964 who decided my security clearance was at risk for such things as "eating in native establishments" as it was written up.
And the American military wonders why since 1950 it has never been able to figure out what "the other side" was doing in any of the SEA involvements. The fact America got into those "involvements" had to do with the sacking of the people their superiors decided had "gone native" in their analyses (all of which were proven right, while all the official actions were wrong).
Americans by and large are a collection of provincial hayshakers and rubes. Even the ones from the big cities.
Ah yes, American "exceptionalism" - turns out that culturally we are exceptionally stupid..... When I traveled overseas for Lockheed-Martin, I always ate on the local economy and met local people - it was far more enjoyable than staying in the local hotel and a helluva lot cheaper ($ 2-3 local, vs. $20+ at the hotel for breakfast).....
Couldn't bear to watch Katie live past 5 seconds too scary & refused to let her/them ruin the great energy of Biden's speech. Already felt like I had a ping pong brain with smirky Johnson juxtaposing good vs evil . Holding up Ukraine aid is a bridge too low. Loved the SNL part with the Shopping network grift selling the cross necklaces. Thanks for the levity.
thanks for posting this, Tom. Even if I weren't jet-lagged (for the first time!), it's hard to remember all the time differences. But, I know it's too late for me! xx's
Jeez…I always thought I was the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot…need to up my game!
I laughed out loud.

Democrats, having brains, don't set themselves up this way.
so it really IS that simple?
If they did that sort of thing more often it would be worth watching again. ScarJo is dynamite.
Other than Scarlet, I saw nothing which.might cause me to tune back in. Compared to the guy doing The President, Chevy Chase or Joe Piscopo were over the top hilarious.
I didn't watch anything other than Scarlett. The overall quality of the show has been downhill for years.
Yes. 50 years is long enough for an idea to get tied.
She was hilarious! I read another take (a written version) yesterday in which "Katie Britt" kept referring to her children by name, each time calling them something different and weird. Thanks for the link. I'll be enjoying this for a long while!
Didnt watch the whole Rup response video - saw pieces. But just watched Scarlett J's - thinking HERS was better - sure got the "point" across!
1.6 million views in 12 hours…
Thanks for prompt to watch a second time as my literal brain didn’t get the tea cup stirring/nails on a chalk board first time around.
I would also watch a split screen (sound off) with Scarlet Johansson and Katie Britt delivering their monologues🤯🤣. Thanks TC for your vigilant and forever clever wordsmithery❤️🤗!
The Katie Britt response to Biden’s SOTU address was horribly cringe worthy but Scarlett Johansson’s SNL monologue was pure gold…

You were exactly on point!

All the real Katie was missing was pearls to clutch.
I laughed out loud.

Yeah, and she can' wipe this off now, no matter how hard she tried on Faux this morning.
As to the *migrants* on the top shelf of the fridge...probably a six pack of Dos Equis.

The parochialism of some Americans - never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

I prefer Negra Modelo, but your point is well taken. But they were probably looking for Miller Lite, not Bud, because of the label controversy.
This was the 1990s before beer label controversies.....outside of this couple, that is.

Great parody of Katie "Peanut" Britt-ill.
Scarlett had Britt pegged to a T. All those Young Republicans I mocked in college have lived down to my expectations.
