Everyone feels good at the news from the polls that the congressional generic ballot continues to drift slowly in the Democrats’ direction. But before Democrats get all comfortable with the idea that they will buck the mid-term odds and keep the House and expand the Senate, they’d better start realizing that my old boss Willie Brown was right when he said the best way to win is to act as if you’re ten points down, until five minutes after the polls close.
I’m not even flinching anymore when I hear a lie shouted or mumbled. In line to get booster, people making interesting small talk until the pharmacy tech calls another person to get a booster. Then it’s “COVid isn’t real”. “They paid the hospital $3000 for each patient declared to have died from COVid.” “The vaccine and boosters are placebos.” “I cannot believe this pharmacy supports the woke libs.” I do not hesitate anymore or feel bad about making scared people feel uncomfortable. “That’s a lie, that’s a lie, that’s a lie” to the three commenters. “It’s only less foolish than the fool who believes it.” And stare them down until they mumble at the floor.
I am not having it. Ignorance is not bliss by any stretch of the imagination in this climate.

I loathe every single one of them. We are on the rails. Don’t even look at a poll. The election in November will be the only poll that counts in democracy’s favor.

Have strategies, plans and execution to protect polling places and workers; voting machines, vote counting and results in states, which may have been compromised by partisan tampering. Getting out the vote and protecting it are major factors in winning.
In North Carolina, the right wing slander machine is in full foul voice, spewing lies about Democratic candidate Cheri Beasley. Her opponent is a trump butt boy. The gop slime ads say nothing about him, just the tired fear mongering ….ie Cheri supports tax increases on even those who make only $10,000!
Admittedly, I might be less inclined to get excited about a race where the other side has a 3-1 registration advantage. But we absolutely need to fight everywhere we can.

The situation in Florida is worrisome. The biggest wildcard are the number of new residents we gained since the last cycle; a lot of them are older whites that skew heavily Republican. I don't know how DEESantis's response to Ian is going to affect him. He didn't make himself look good when President Biden was here, but unfortunately looking and acting like an asshole is not the detriment that it needs to be and it once was. Val Demings has been campaigning hard for the Senate seat but she's dealing with the same demographics as other statewide races; Rubio is a sniveling fuckwit but "R" behind the name will be good enough for too many.
Good reminders. The red signs are popping up as though they were poppies planted in spring and the rains have come. Vot Republican and Save America. All over our county now and often without any candidate signs. We voted today.
Tc, I hope you picked up on NYT and NPR reporting on Republican strategy to challenge enough Democrat votes on election day to create date with which suggests widespread voting fraud. The video is very disturbing. Push is to have more of their people as pollworkers or observers and intentionally challenge votes as they are being cast, which creates a record of "plausible" fraud and even if not verifiable, slows down voting. Not sure whether challenged ballot is then held back until all submitted votes are cast and verified. Scarey.
