I'm waiting for the poll that asks for an opinion such as "Do you support raising the debt ceiling?" and then follows with questions probing the depth of knowledge of the respondent such as "Does the debt ceiling refer to how much government can borrow, can spend without borrowing, or can pay back on loans?" etc., and then correlates the responses so the poll results include what percentage of those who know what the debt ceiling actually is also disagree with raising it, or are undecided. Without that information polls give equal weight to misinformed respondents as to well informed respondents which may tell us something about how a population might vote (if it's their crucial issue), but nothing about how informed voters are and what underlies these opinions or what people really think when they know the facts.

Why aren’t the Democrats invoking the 14th amendment (section 2) which basically says the U.S. has to pay its debt?

Nobody has ever done it before and they don't know if the markets will accept that.

The idiot Dem "leadership" was TOLD in 2021 to pass an elimination or reform of the debt ceiling in the budget reconciliation bill they passed on a party-line vote, and they basically said, oh, no one would hold the country hostage over that - it wouldn't be nice.....

The only reason I'm a Democrat is because of the Republicans.

I'll vote with them but I'll be damned if I send money to the DNC..... I do donate to Democratic candidates in elections. And do not get me started on the stupid pleas for money they send continually, telling me to send money to "pass this bill and expand the SCOTUS" or some other project, when I know perfectly well that it is currently impossible to do so. Sheesh.

exactly how I feel. fuck the DNC. or let them gain some actual COMPETENCE before they ask.

that sort of applies to all of us. now it's my understanding that in California you can vote even in Republican primaries?

if I were a generation younger, I'd probably pride myself on being a registered Independent, because I've observed that people born in, say, the sixties seem to pride themselves on being "unaffiliated."

in my case, there is no case to be made. my father helped write speeches for Stevenson, for godsake.

There are no Republican or Democratic primaries. There's a Jungle Primary where the top two regardless of party are the candidates on the ballot in November.

The leadership ought to be talking to “the markets” about this!

Love that you pointed out about polling questions. Do you understand debt limit..🤔So if you decide not to pay your mortgage, how do you think that will affect your credit rating ??

And DINO Manchin, the scrap coal king, is spewing Biden should negotiate.

Government is the problem…In God We Trust and don’t trust the government⬅️ Prez candidate Ramaswamey at NRA convention.

Great takedown of Qevin and the Maga Dolts' shitty shenanigans along with the straight dope about the Dumb Dems(pun intended). You've got a lot of street cred around our circle of readers, TC. Twain also nailed the asshole clown circus performing in the Swamp as "America's only truly criminal class," a really unbelievably stupid one as it turns out. Things have only gotten worse since Twain's day.

Mark Twain was a smart man. And right. We appear to be in that cycle where America will try everything that won't work before the get to something. Seems our real strength is driving by our rear view mirror. But not counting the collisions and fatalities as it goes.

Oh. Wait. The definition of a Clown Car, I believe.

These “moderate Democrats” forgot what a disaster it was for Obama and our country when Obama tried to negotiate with these dangerous radicals.

Thanks for the latest blast of craziness from the House GOP. The negotiate Democrats are a bit crazy too. Nothing to negotiate about in the package. Someone needs to get them “on message”.

It's nearly 4pm on the east coast. Waiting on that red caucus vote, Qvering. The world is surely holding its collective bated breath for

your triumph in setting off

a WMD. You're such an effing

putz! Someone, somewhere,

break it down by the dollar,

how much these red states

are going to lose imminently

and in the future. Then print

printit in bold face and plaster it from coast to coast.

It's clearly evident no one

onein the House can make

a common sense explanation

to THE PEOPLE of what will

happen. They're being baffled with bullshit.

All I can think of after reading this TC is WTF?

There the Dems go again, making nice with the word negotiate, equivalent of dropping one's gloves in a boxing match. At least Biden took and maybe landed some punches in his speech today. As some here have pointed out, the Dems must be "out there" educating their constituents about what it all means. A minimum someone should be producing a DNC PSA explaining the 14th Amendment and the debt ceiling in case it's needed in June.

Holy shit. I’ll read this again in the morning. Thanks.
