If the Democratic Party leadership wants to know where to go and what to say to reach the American people, they could do worse than look at the results of the tour being done by Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Thursday night, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders launched their joint “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. They held rallies with 7,000+ in both Tempe, AZ, and 15,000+ in Las Vegas, NV. AOC brought the fire, saying: “What they like to call as radical, I believe is common sense … when a person gets sick, they shouldn’t go bankrupt … a minimum wage should cover the minimum cost to live … homes are not slot machines for investors and Wall Street to extort working families out of every last dollar that they have.” Sanders said: “While I am not a mathematician, I do know that 99% is a hell of a lot bigger number than 1% … if we do not let Trump and his friends divide us up by the color of our skin, or where we were born, or our religion, or our sexual orientation—if we stand together as one people fighting for justice, there is nothing that we cannot do.” So right both.

Last night, they spoke in Denver to a crowd of 34,000. More importantly, she spoke to 11,000 In Greeley, where I went to college, and I can assure you 11,000 people have never done the same thing for anything in that burg I am so glad to be well away from, not even go to football games in such numbers when I was there. Neither is running for office. They went there and people came to hear what they said. As to what the message was that worked, it was AOC and Bernie - speaking to the American working class, pointing out how they are being screwed by the administration, how the system is rigged against the average American and what a “living wage” looks like, and how the programs they need are being taken from them to give money to the billionaire class. That’s the traditional Democratic message. We do not need to listen to the otherwise-unemployables from the shallow end of the white upper middle class, who call themselves “Democratic consultants.” Democrats need to go out and talk to people about why that Democrat decided to become a Democrat. AOC and Bernie show what to do. As AOC says, “These are not out of the Communist Manifesto. These are what we worked for all our lives.” The American people are looking for people who aren’t afraid to say what they really think. That’s what has Democrats and Republicans in Washington terrified, because most of them don’t know what they think, really or not.

From the Department of Uh-Oh - These People Really Are This Fucking Stupid: Interim Social Security chief Lee Dudek doubled down Friday on his threat to outright shutter the Social Security Administration in retaliation to a ruling against DOGE. Acting commissioner Dudek alleged to The Washington Post that the SSA cannot comply with a federal ruling—meant to block DOGE’s access to sensitive data within the administration—from Thursday, because it would handcuff the work of his entire staff. District Judge Ellen Lipton Hollander ruled that Social Security officials are barred from sharing Americans’ personal information with DOGE staffers and its “affiliates” for two weeks. Dudek claimed Hollander’s ruling was too broad because, at this point, any SSA staffer could be considered an “affiliate” of DOGE as they are all obligated to cooperate with Elon Musk’s service. Dudek told the Post that government attorneys will file an affidavit asking Hollander to clarify language in her ruling, which he criticized as being “ambiguous,” “overly broad” and “weirdly written.” If she is unable to clear things up, Dudek threatens he will “just start to shut it down,” referring to SSA, adding that he does not “have much of a choice here.” This jumped up minor employee, who would still be unknown in his obscurity had he not jumped to become a quisling to DOGE

However, the Northwest ICE Processing Center told the BCC the detainment “related to the violation of the terms and conditions of her admission.” Burke’s family told the outlet they believe it was related to her accommodation agreements—including receiving free accommodation for helping hosts “around the house,” which may have been understood as a violation of her visitor visa.

The department withdrew 11 pieces of compliance guidance in what it called an effort to streamline review processes and reduce costs for consumers. The ADA is a civil rights law that prevents discrimination against individuals with impairments in areas of public life. The first five repealed pieces of guidance reference COVID-19 conditions. The six others relate to accessible features in retail establishments and lodging facilities, customer service protocols at hotels, input from customers with disabilities, reaching out to customers with disabilities and assistance at self-service gas stations. Officials said the decision to withdraw guidance was made in response to President Trump’s January memorandum seeking to reduce the cost of living. (For who???) “The (In)Justice Department is committed to ensuring that businesses and members of the public can easily understand their rights and obligations, including the tax incentives that are available to help businesses comply with the ADA,” said Deputy AAG Mac Warner of the Civil Rights Division “Putting money back into the pockets of business owners helps everyone by allowing those businesses to pass on cost savings to consumers and bolster the economy.” Maria Town, president and CEO of the American Association of People with Disabilities, said the guidance was still badly needed. “Although the Americans with Disabilities Act is close to 35 years old, disabled people frequently experience barriers in retail, lodging, and hospitals. Individuals, employers and other entities still need this guidance and still benefit from it.” North Wales, Pa., Mayor Neil McDevitt, who is deaf, said: “The reality is that Project 2025 and the Trump Administration are acting decisively to remove every element of enforcement from all civil rights statutes, including the ADA, without actually asking Congress to repeal the laws.”

The University of California’s board moved on Wednesday to cut diversity statements from recruitment requirements.
