I am making my daily phonecalls to a few members of Congress. I'd do more, but I do have to worry about my bp.

As for today, when I reach the voicemail of MAGA elected officials, I ask if they can't answer the phone as they are out getting fitted for their Court Jester costumes. If Trump wants to cosplay as a King, they need to attire themselves as he'd see fit. Those costumes might be a bit harder to find than the blue suits/extra long red ties that they donned in NYC, but heck--Mardi Gras is coming soon. Perhaps they should consider a Party City going-out-of-business sale?

Remembering Jurate, TC, and the generous way you shared with us the journey of her dying! Wherever she is, you can count on the fact that she is smiling upon you and encouraging you to get on with your life!

TY for today’s “ rundown”….. the spewing forth of awful stuff is like the head turning pea soup vomiting of Linda Blair in The Exorcist…..one of which we could use right now—an exorcist, that is!!!

Tom, I'm a Texas subscriber. I think a few of us are here. How about carving out an exception for those of us who hate Maga and Trump with the intensity of a thousand suns. Suicide among young people has reached alarming levels across the country.

TCinLA's avatar

I thought I did. I don't think you respond to the term "White Trash goatroper," do you?

Rita Parker's avatar

No. I responded to your written word of "From the Department of the US would be a better place if Texas and Texans didn't exist".

My brother also lives in Texas and is a progressive democrat. It's hard enough to live in NC, but residing in Texas has to be even harder.

TCinLA's avatar

The good folks in Texas were not on the list of Texas idiots, who were defined in a particular, specific demographic. In fact, having been in Texas and worked with the folks like your brother, I can say with certainty that Good Folks In Texas are better Good Folks than Good folks elsewhere, because it's much harder to do.

It wasn't hard until Trump. It was like evil metastasizing through the state and invasion of the body snatchers. This isn't about politics. It's about morality. You cannot claim to be Christian and support Trump. The pure cruelty and ugliness is a feature not a bug and it's not going to end until Trump is dead. Until then every Republican is going to emulate the hate. Bless your brother.

True all that. I thought the Goatropers we dealt with in Killeen back in 1968 with the Wallace stickers on their pick'm up trucks with the gunracks in the rear window were bad news, but their spawn are much worse.

Ashamed of Texas and the evil trio that makes all of us look like we are cult nuts. If they didn’t cheat, we would rule. I do acknowledge that there are plenty of MAGAts here but plenty of us too.

Rita Parker's avatar

Agreed. Too damn many sitting at home and not voting. I remember when Beto lost by 200,000+ to Cruz, and I was actually encouraged. Cruz has done NOTHING for Texas. He is a sleeze of the highest order. I genuinely believed Colin Allred had a chance. Instead Cruz trounced him by over 800,000 votes. Sickening.

Thanks, Tom for your courage in saying out loud what so many of us are thinking, and for getting into the nitty-gritty of digging it out and explaining a lot of it to the ones, like me, who are not politically astute, or don’t have time to devote to digging it ourselves!

Somewhere, Jurate and Milton are watching, and I am sure they’re cheering you on.

TCinLA's avatar

I'm sure they are Martha, you too.

I am glad that you survived your loss. The anniversary of my husband's passing last year Is coming up soon. I have no idea what to expect but I'm looking forward because that's what we have to do.

Sharon Stearley's avatar

Thank you TC. It is hard to lose those we love. However, time and learning to live without our loved ones helps! Jurate must have been a wonderful lady! We have to be strong and continue our work to save our democracy!

I thank my father for teaching me how to stand up to bullies even though I was a runt of a girl in a neighborhood of mostly boys. I can think of four times I had to come out of my corner as a kid, one time standing up to a teacher who was cruel to the poorest two kids in our school and the other three were decisive wins over boy bullies, achieved through stealth and good timing. As a nation we are seeing the corrosive effects of bullyism in the suicide of a frightened, minority child, victim of those who emulate the rampage of a ruthless Vandal administration, primal in their bloodlust. The Dems and other people of goodwill must use stealth and good timing to deliver the sucker punch needed to turn the tide. They absolutely must recruit labor unions* and those newly disaffected by Trumpism Number Two to time a nationwide metaphorical sucker punch. (Forget about the churches because they're too compromised.) Let's see if the plan to protest via crippling commerce by not spending on February 28th has legs. If it does, labor, working families, can organize for additional targeted actions of passive resistance, with events every two weeks.

*Omit the self-aggrandizing jerk that heads the Teamsters.

And, Tom, we're all grateful that during one of the darkest times in your life you did not withdraw from us and from your life's mission, the one Jerate encouraged you to pursue.

I have been musing on the reality that so many democrats are fed up with the Democratic party. I am wondering how much of the perceived ineptness in the general response to this moment has to do with the fact that over the past let's say 45 years we've been steadily moving toward being an oligarchy, regardless of who is president. Candidates who are serious about halting or reversing this path have not gotten far. So maybe many of our elected officials who are democrats are not actually invested in reversing this trend, as they benefit from it. They may be concerned about fascism, but don't want to pay the price for doing anything about it. And I'm not saying that Obama and Biden didn't do anything to address inequities. These things just haven't added up to creating a robust middle class and regulating limits on the extremes of wealth and closing loopholes for tax evasion. And of course, now we are on the fast track to oligarchy. I'd love to hear others' opinions about this.

It’s hard to admit, to come to the realization after all the civil rights progress, that we are still a racist, sexist, misogynist country. It will turn around but at what cost. It took WWII to get the US out of its first oligarchy ( and even stopped fascism). Who’s going to save this democracy? Western Europe? Australia? What makes these people as heartless as the kleptocrats in St Petersburg?

GarySanDiego's avatar

I agree that most of the official Democratic denizens, and upper middle class+ Democrats, think of the party only in terms of civil rights and not as a counterweight to corporate interests (which they conflate with economic stability). I know many who are at best very suspicious of labor unions and antitrust enforcement and workplace safety rules, etc. They grew up under Reagan and are imbued with a certain deference to the supply side.

Whew. They are certainly filling the zone with shit. Thanks for sifting through it for us Tom.

Yes of course there is a future for you! We are part of it! Us! You had a goal and created a community. Jurate’s passing freed you to to be able to inform us and keep us going! 💙🇺🇸🗽

I know I do. :-)

Per AP, 51-49 Final score. Murkowski & Collins were the only R-No's.

Maybe this will put an end to those “Mitch McConnell ain’t so bad” stories.

Surprise surprise.

I am one looking for a Dem politician with a spine. I donated my saving account away in the fall and now the Dems disappear and are letting Putin, muskrat and chump call the shots. I’m So far beyond pissed that I’m speechless half the time. May be a good thing

Maybe the Meidas brothers can get Bill, Barack, Hillary, Joe, W, and assorted former VPs, and inquire why they are not personally going into the govt agencies and Departments and trying to stop this travesty. They have protection, right? Unless the dogesac has fired the secret service for “poor performance “. Nothing like watching one’s presidential legacy , let alone one’s moral outrage get kicked to the curb.
