I have understood that the colleges with the highest default rates are the private for-profit schools, not schools like Harvard and Columbia. These for-profit schools prey upon students who can’t attend regular colleges, falsely promising them employment after they graduate, requiring that they take classes that they do not need so that the college can prolong their attendance, and encouraging them to take out vast amounts of loans. They exist because of student loans. I would guess the owners are big Trump supporters.
UPDATED 5/6/25 %:30PM Pacific. The 2nd U.S. District Court of Appeals appellate conducted a hearing for 90 Minutes this morning. The Panel heard on Two (2) cases not One (1)!
For 90 minutes starting at 10 AM Eastern, a three (3) Judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Court of Appeals heard an argument on whether to bring Tuft's Phd candidate RUMSEYA OZTURK back to Vermont among several other major issues.
But, at the Tuesday morning Appellate hearing -- SURPRISE!
While we were all sleeping the Appellate Panel allowed for a consolidated hearing, 1st Rumseya's case then immediately after the panel heard another matter of a Columbia student, MOHSHEN MAHDAWI:
Wreck 2.0 wants MOHSHEN back in jail after his recent release! There's a latin phrase for its but, SPOILER ALERT, there is not a chance in Hell for re-detention - no way- not even in Steve Miller's Santa Monica sordid mind!
So Jeffries says the Dems are going to "keep the pressure on." And what pressure might that be? The only adrenalin I see is in a few outspoken Dems. We need lightning rods, gadflies, and Dems wearing black armbands signifying the death of democracy as we all live out the raw misery of this hospice phase.
I notice the wingers keep labeling Dems commies. It's beyond time to educate Americans about all the isms because they remain embarrassingly ignorant when simple googling could help them out.
As for student loan debt, we might be surprised to find how many licensed professionsals in all areas may be in arrears, you know, the ones who mistakenly had children and bought homes without realizing payments would actually be mortgages due to the high interest payments. Dems should get behind an old program that can be new again. Back in the '50s and '60s after the Soviets launched Sputnik, the National Science Foundation backed loans that involved graduated payment forgiveness for each year the graduate worked in science and engineering fields. This allowed for lowered and more manageable monthly payments, and the country benefited from new blood in the fields of science, education, engineering, and some R and D.
Finally, if you truly want a meritocracy, which they truly don't, you don't set artificial caps on high ranking military officers. It will not help with recruiting or maintaining good people if they see themselves foreclosed from advancement. And, in the case of the degenerate in charge, it certainly is an obvious ploy to eliminate those pesky folks who take their oaths seriously and know when they have a duty to disobey.
I'm frustrated by the various articles and TV commentators about how many decades these top military officers have served, without pointing out the loss of decades of knowledge, experience and institutional knowledge each will be taking away from the U.S. military.
As officers rise up in rank, they bring with them experience and knowledge that is essential to effective management of their assigned role(s). Just as with all of the other government agencies and organizations, that loss can be crippling to the effectiveness of the full organization.
Judith, it's not just the military loss of 'institutional knowledge', but every department the DOGE boys have dug into and decimated. We will be decades repairing the damage, and goddess only knows what kinds of crises we will face, basically kneecapped.
Why aren’t the Democrats forming a British-style shadow cabinet to keep on these idiots loudly and clearly 24/7? And I love the black armbands…perhaps we should all be wearing them.
“Because here’s the thing: The Trump administration didn’t defend mifepristone on the merits—they simply argued that the states don’t have standing to sue. In fact, the DOJ was careful to say that they weren’t weighing in on whether the AGs’ wild claims about the medication were true.
As ACLU attorney Julia Kay told HuffPost, “The Trump Administration should not get a gold star for continuing to highlight the glaring legal flaws in Missouri’s case—they could not do otherwise with a straight face.”
My guess is that the Trump administration is looking for some positive press on abortion pills: By challenging the suit on standing, they get credit for “defending” mifepristone—racking up voter-friendly headlines—but they don’t actually have to refute the AGs’ junk science.
That way, if (when) the FDA cracks down on mifepristone, the Trump administration can pretend as if they’re not biased. After all—didn’t they just oppose a lawsuit?!”
It still surprised me that they took the position they did and did not reverse their position. It appears they are trying to put the brakes on the anti-abortion people in hopes of it not being a big issues in 2026.
Thank you, TC. I wish he would take a vacation! Maybe on a spaceship! Never to return! We need to get our country that I was once so happy to be apart of…back! Too many days until the next election!
1: The European Union is adding a further €500 million ($566 M) to its €16 billion ($18 B) research budget for the purpose of luring recently unemployed U.S. research scientists their way.
2: With the €uro sitting at 1.14 to the U$D (or, conversely, the U$D currently being worth 0.86 €uros) what are the chances of the U.S. dollar being replaced as the default global currency by the Euro - sometime before 2028 if the Trump regime is not reigned in. By successful elections granting the Democratic party majority in both chambers of congress during the 2026 midterms and ensuing impeachment, for example.
Keep up the good work, TC!! The reason the current administration is so anxious to diminish education AT ALL LEVELS is because THEY ARE TOO STUPID TO UNDERSTAND ANYTHING!!
And, YES, let's remove all the generals and admirals who know how to maintain law and order and also know that certain commands are reviewable and can be disregard if they exceed the laws. And the beat goes on. ... I can't even talk about how upsetting the "UN-medical team" of this administration is!! If they KILL US ALL .... who are they going to GRIFT?? Keep fighting folks .... this herd of stupid wannabes is going to "sink their own ship!"
Tiring of these televised ambushes of other countries representatives in the WH with cabinet fucktards in attendance for backup as if they have any original thoughts themselves, when they open their mouths it all donnie all the time, check your spine, brain and any sense of self respect at the door. Makes me want to throw up.
Why does the opposition always have to be restrained, dignified, and intelligent when the clowns with flamethrowers are crude, nasty, bullying, oppositional, unrestrained and anything but intelligent. Call the bastards out…

And have already lost generations of expertise and institutional knowledge.
Crippling is the goal, is it not
Thanks Tom. A lot going on.

Thank You. Shared.
This country is about to have a lot of hard conversations.
Hard and loud.
