Sunday, 6/29, CNN Breaking at 2:30 AM after midnight, the FYB passed a procedural vote 51 to 49. The Senate "debate" starts Monday, 6/30.
************************************************
Saturday, 6/28 -- 7 PM Eastern Update: The Senate is in a somewhat rare Saturday Session which may go into early hours of Sunday.nEven IF the BBB passes at this stage, the budget must go back to the House where it previously passed by 1 vote. I'm going to name it the Fuck You Budget. FYI, hereinafter "FYB" Anyway, FYB. No!
***************
Saturday, 6/28 per mSNBC's Vaughn Hillyard Trump's Senate operatives are attempting to push along Wreck's Big Bad Budget (BBB) by a "Motion to Proceed". Senator Thom Tillis is still a "No" or may be 'undecided' per TC below." Senator Rand Paul did go on a tump golf trip today in New Jersey where they poured Jack Daniel's at the 19th Hole.
If Wreck clears these hurdles, there will be about 20 more hours of "debate" on the Senate floor subject to Budget amendments & more trips to the 19th Hole. Repeat as needed.
They have delayed the vote. Paul and Johnson are definite "No." Tillis is undecided and demanding major modification of the Medicaid cuts so they do not affect Medicare (as they do now - Medicare gets cut $500 million if the Medicaid cuts remain. Unlikely Thune can give him that and not lose other votes who want the cuts. The 4pm vote was delayed and there is no new time been set. Trump was going to "stay in the White House" to work with Senate leaders, but at noon he took off for his golf club in northern Virginia; he obviously doesn't think anything will happen.
They held the vote on the motion to proceed and got it with Corporal Couchfukcer's tie-breaker vote. Shumer ic calling for a reading of the entire bill before the vote-a-rama and amendments start, delaying things into tomorrow. There are six House no votes on the Senate version as it exists today.
I've been a small monthly donor to ACLU since late 2016. I need to add Democracy Docket.
Other organizations I support that are fighting in court against Trump's many efforts to dismantle so many aspects of our (formerly) protected rights and public lands include:
I have a grudging admiration for the homeless because when that day comes where we look about and see the nation in full dystopia mode, the homeless will know how to survive and will become the leaders. If I could I'd get them all warm jackets with SECURITY emblazoned on the back so the police would leave them alone. I don't know how much society has to have its fifis chafed before our governments do something to solve the problem, something beyond just brooming the homeless along to some place else.
If the press feel like they're taking it on the chin from Trump as he berates them from his toilet, they could try ignoring his Truth Social rants rather than allowing themselves to be used to spread and amplify his ramblings. It's likely that several people have access to his account and draft some of the posts, which gives him plausible deniability, so make him spew his drivel out loud. Starve his infantile need for constant attention and his magas' need for his constant performance.
It would be nice if we could find someone who's not as old as we are to run against Collins, but otherwise, Gov. Mills looks like a pretty good choice.
ONLY 493 days to the mid-terms. Collins, Graham, and any other of the gop magats must be defeated. That's the work ahead, that and continuing to stand shoulder to shoulder against this fascist regime. The gop has been moving in this direction since nixon- 12 years reagan bush, tea party, "freedom" caucus, in between the dems stupidity with clinton creating gop lite ( no taste, no ideas), trump, full in maga fascism. Regarding Iran, the "missing nuclear material 60% enriched, etc, Heather Cox Richardson in her June 26 newsletter (published June 27) has this tasty bit which may explain all the telling remarks:
"But there is perhaps a different angle to this deal than the Obama administration’s. The idea of building nuclear power plants in the Middle East was central to Trump’s 2016 bid for office. Members of Trump’s inner circle, including Michael Flynn and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, hatched a plan for a joint U.S.-Russian project to build nuclear power plants in Saudi Arabia. In June 2016 they formed a company called IP3 International, short for International Peace, Power and Prosperity."
It lacks grace to repeatedly confess naïveté, but I’ll ask… Your opening photo today… Is that AI or a real installation? Either way, well done!
I have yet to learn to discern AI while friends spot it readily.
And Jack is so engaging. Thank you, Karen and TC. Oh my goodness. Those eyes!
And is it Cupcake closing things out? (If there’s a caption, I’m missing it, but maybe it is quiz time for regulars.)
Regarding Norm Eisen‘s perspective, quoted today, I see no follow up commentary on your part, Tom, so does that mean you concur or…? Was it Rob Hubbell or someone else who reacted about SCOTUS’ practice of ruling on bureaucratic and procedural details rather than core issues?
Of course, the case showed up in that form and they were ruling about countrywide injunctions, not the core issue of birthright citizenship… I believe in the decision there was a brief comment that the core issue would no doubt come up sometime down the line.
Heartily recommend the 30 minute video of Rob Hubbell’s Saturday pep-talk today. While he acknowledges it’s been a tough week, he reminds us of the challenges, travails, and perseverance of movements such as women’s suffrage and civil rights… individual acts can seem small but prove hugely consequential while, as I’ve commented before, what in the moment feels hugely consequential sometimes fades, having little or no impact. He spoke of Rosa Parks choosing to stay in her seat on the bus, knowing full well, like many before her, she would be arrested, jailed, suffer personal consequence… But the moment became pivotal, a tipping point. His point is we never know what event or action will turn out to be the tipping point.
🎶Key change (as grandson Johnny and I like to say):
Looking forward to the screenplay! I was taken back to a favorite spot in El Segundo, the public library, and I know right where I was standing when I selected a book slightly above eye level, 3/4 of an inch thick, red cover, called The Feathered Cape. The book, with its glossary of Hawaiian terms, was one of a series of moments that set me on the path to study foreign languages, later ELD and language acquisition by the deaf and hearing impaired… Is this relevant? Yes, in this sense…
I encountered in the library the script of My Fair Lady. My parents regularly played the classic musicals from those times, and I loved and had memorized most of the music and lyrics.… Music Man, South Pacific, My Fair Lady, Gigi… So I checked it out and read through it like a whiz. When I finished so quickly, at first I was puzzled and then I thought, but of course! It’s the script. When you buy a ticket and attend a performance, performance time is finite. That’s why you read the book so quickly, Kathie. Lol.
Apologies again to Mr. Conant for the overexplaining…
Just musing really, and one thing leads to another.
Length of Mr. Cleaver’s movie script? In the end, like a visit to our newly minted Adobe cinema! Time will tell, literally.
My dear neighbor and teacher friend Eleanor Hill Lowengart passed a few years ago in her early 90s. Her father practiced medicine in San Francisco and she told me once that he had treated Meredith Willson for something very serious, and when Mr. Willson’s health was restored, he was deeply grateful and thus the name in the famed musical, Prof. Harold Hill.
I tried researching this more just now but it’s clear I’m no whiz when it comes to research, ended up heading down a rabbit hole. Lol.
Cheers. Stay safe and healthy, everyone. If you’re like me, daily you’re engaged in heartfelt conversations with people who are fearful, brave, and resolute regarding ICE.
I love what I’m seeing online more and more, law enforcement directed to - prepared to - detain and arrest for kidnapping these masked marauding thugs in plain clothes or cosplay military garb, no I.d. … And the masks have to go! Okay, again cheers!
It's a real installation. There is a space for "outsideers" to do an installation on the mall for a week. This has now been replaced by a "television" showing Trump dancing face to face with Jeffrey Epstein (real event). Trumplethinskin is even more pissed off at this one than he was with Doictator's Choice.
Reading Jack’s mind, he said “this is really scary stuff TC is writing about. This administration has no sense of decency! I’m just going to stay in my house. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Aww. Pic of my Katie cat to wind up. She’s been gone for over two years and I miss her so much. Great pics of both..The fact that 40% approve of anything he does is a tribute to the treasonous news outlets, and Fox entertainment. It’s embarrassing for such a phony, evil greedy bastard to get anything over single digits. Lots of gnashing of teeth when fools find out they have been fooled - along with the rest of us who will be dragged along. Thanks for your documentation. It counts

Per the ACLU, after 103 days of ICE detention, MOSHEN MAHDWI is free.
Disclosure, I am a member of the ACLU, a proud member.

I donate to the ACLU & Democracy Docket.
Both effective litigators in real court rooms on real tough matters.

One correction: that is Jack not Munchkin🩷
One of these decades, I'll get them straight. :-)
Thanks Karen. I was going to say that Munchkin is too freakin' cute, but I'll say instead, Jack is too freakin' cute.
Those eyes! Those hypnotic regal green eyes! Yes your majesty, I will do whatever you want. Yes, your majesty, I am your slave for life.

Unfortunately she doesn't seem to be considering a run at this point.
I was afraid that would be the case, but it's early.
True.

I had a terrible
nightmare last night. I
haven't had one in years!
I dreamt I was stuck on a
bus with Trump and he
wouldn't shut up! He
was demanding
everyone help him find
this tiny blue button so
he could crush it.
Shivers.
I have to go and get new
voter ID. 😳
Good news about Cheseboro. Here's an interesting compilation of Trump-related attorneys who have faced sanctions and even disbarment. https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2024/09/26/kenneth-chesebro-charged-in-wisconsin-here-are-all-the-former-trump-lawyers-now-facing-legal-consequences/
