James Lee Burke, on finding out I was a screenwriter, declared he could never do that job - "It's like playing the Blues on a guitar while handcuffed!" That's a good definition. A screenplay is considered to be "a minute of screen time per page" and since most movies are 2 hours or so, a script has to be told and done in 120 pages. You learn fast not to waste space on extraneous words.
