I think that MOSCOW MITCH SHANKED THE DONALD and MAGA, too. Kevin McCarthy, along with his Donor Class has also been shanking the Donald or so went a recent article in the Washington Post.

‘Kevin McCarthy’s allies spent millions weeding out Trump-backed candidates such as Madison Cawthorn. It was part of a bigger plan.’

This article had so many PACs separating the wheat from the chaff, they clogged the page:

American Patriots, Common Sense Leadership Fund, Eighteen Fifty-Four Fund, Conservatives For a Stronger America, Congressional Leadership Fund, Common Sense, Americans for a Balanced Budget, WFW Action Fund.

I’m sure that I didn’t write them all down. In addition to Cawthorn, the PACS got rid of controversial Republicans like former New York state party chair Carl Paladino, Florida state Rep. Anthony Sabatini and Trump-endorsed congressional candidate Joe Kent. These PAC allies of McCarthy’s also spent millions in attempts to protect incumbents. (WAPO)

So, I don’t think Mitch is the only elephant in the room after the Donald. The ‘serious’ Republican politicos’ want to do a little cleanup to win back some Suburban Moms. Ha, good luck with that as Roe v. Wade are staring them in the face. Nevertheless, it would magical if they could disappear the Donald before the midterms. Ha, ha…do you believe in magic?

But getting back to Mitch, Mr. Serioso helped get more than enough Republicans on board, so that the The Electoral Count Reform and Presidential Transition Improvement Act will be passed. Isn’t bipartisanship a beautiful thing?

Now, if these upstanding Republicans work their spell on getting The Donald to disappear that would be magical indeed.

They didn't get rid of Joe Kent, he is the GOP nominee in WA - he defeated Jaime Herrera Beutler, who voted for Trump's impeachment.

TAFMers, This a portion of the report about the race this morning from LFAA subscriber, voter, Gary S.

"Disinformation seems to be the hallmark of the midterm campaign." That is spot on.

'Tonight we watched the first debate between candidates in the third congressional district of Washington, which is up for grabs and is being contested by Marie Gleusenkamp Perez (D) and Joe Kent (R). Kent is the MAGA candidate who ousted Rep. Jaime Herrera-Beutler after she committed the (im)mortal sin of voting to impeach former President Trump after the January 6 riot.'

'This race has found national attention as seen in this in-depth article by Michelle Goldberg of The New York Times. With that publication, Ms. Perez has received a flood of contributions. (I don't work for her campaign.)'

Here's Ms. Perez's website: https://marieforcongress.com/

'Kent's ingratiating himself to white nationalists was called out in this article in The Bulwark, a publication of never-Trumpers. That well-written take-down includes a video of Kent debasing himself with a white nationalist student interviewer. Here's that link:

'We live in strange times, but we can't afford to give ground when democracy is at stake.'

Good stuff, Fern.

Right you are, TC. Kent is a far-right Republican with the backing of the former president. Dem trails close behind in district where GOP hasn’t lost in 14 years. In a poll surveyed Sept. 19-20, of 834 likely District 3 (Washington) voters surveyed Sept. 19-20, 44% said they would vote for Glusenkamp Perez and 47% said they would vote for Kent. Nine percent said they were unsure.

Glusenkamp Perez’s campaign represents one of the strongest Democratic contenders for an upset victory in the 2022 midterm elections.

In addition to the former president, Kent also has money behind him. Donors to Kent’s campaign include committees controlled by GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida and fellow Republican candidates. The conservative Club for Growth has also invested in Kent’s campaign.

Individual donors to Kent’s campaign include Steve Wynn, the casino and hotel developer, and Peter Thiel, a billionaire and co-founder of PayPal. He has listed less than $10,000 in donations from people who reside in Washington, D.C., according to FEC reports.

Whodathunkit? Good for Senator McConnell. Will it be enough to stop the fraud at the state levels?

Itwill give ammo to those who fight them on the state level.

McConnell has done an important about face.

His legacy has always been foremost in his thinking. He wrote it, including the post-riot speech right after the insurrection, and then the comments to the press over the intervening months to thread the needle of Leader of Party while sewing a path to this type of grand gesture. Book ends, if you will, to a shelf of political marinating that would pickle the image of what once could have been American democracy writ large. The hopes for our country are a big price to pay for the Turtle's place in it's political history.

Absolutely right.

Interestingly, if you look at his history, he started out working for and becoming a protege of John Sherman Cooper, a Republican good guy. Mitch was thought to be in that mold, and won his first election to the Senate on the basis of that reputation.

Then things changed.

Forgot that. Maybe "Coattail Mitch" would fit better than the Turtle. Cooper is probably rotating in his grave.

I still don’t trust him.

Yeah, he is cutting things down to a minimum from what they should be. But most of politics is a ground game, a yard or two at a time - the opportunities for a good pass and advance are few. But an aggressive ground game will get you to the goal line just like a passing game. Just not as thrillingly.

We don't have to like him or trust him. We just have to say "thank you" for the vote.

Moscow Mitch only answers to his billionaire handlers. He is a nasty piece of work, and perhaps he is tired of tRump’s insults ( . . .”he [Mitch McConnell] is a piece of sh!t and and Old Crow . . . “) after years of force-feeding trump fascism to his “American People” audience. If McConnell had been concerned by the Jan 6th coup attempt, he would have acted on it in “his serious” way long before now. Don’t give him an iota of credit; the old reptilian fossil doesn’t deserve an ounce of good will. His record will stand as it is . . . Until the Brown Shirts burn all the history books.

Entirely right. But remember that Hitler got defeated by FDR, Churchill and Stalin. Not the most likely alliance.

Who is going to be our Churchill in the coming decade? It seems the entire world is leaning toward fascism.

You have a good reason to "Huh?" Mitch would never have signed it if he hadn't been afraid of some items in the House version.

McConnell is a snake. We know he is a snake. He does nothing that isn’t in his own best interest. There’s a lot of “Boyz in the backroom” cigar chomping discussion with Dark Money interests in this current, surprise bipartisan endorsement, to be sure

Working for change is not only being radical, but also nudging the "concrete butts" a little bit. That was my takeaway from the 1970ies.

Live to fight another day, yes, but I hope the House will get to work immediately on adendams that will close any loopholes the RepubliCONs surely left. I would not trust a RepubliCON any more then that rat out in my barn.

That doesn't sound right. Does that mean that the V.P. can't reject false electors?
