The above are six possible covers for the next book, which comes out next fall.
Since many of you buy my books - and since you were really helpful last year in helping me see that the cover Osprey proposed for “Clean Sweep” was better than my idea - I’d like to ask you to take a look at these covers and let me know which one “grabbed you.”
Number them 1-4 top row left to right, and 5-6 for the bottom row.
This is important; you’re the only group of actual book-buyers being consulted.
The question is: if you walked in to your local bookstore and saw my book there, which cover would get you to pick it up?
Thanks to all who respond.
RESULTS: There is an overwhelming vote for #4, on several grounds: color, composition, and the statement (FINITO BENITO NEXT HIROHITO).
You’ll all be happy to know that that slogan was painted on the airplane in red. I have sent that information to the art department. I also included the commentary about the graphics needing to be a bit more prominent, and I agreed with those who said the title words should be the same size.
THANKS MUCH!!

I vote for number 4. That’s the blue of the Mediterranean Sea.
I like 4.
Whatever you do, don't have a cover where a woman in 40's clothes stands looking up at the sky and planes fly in the background. Have you SEEN how many historical novels about the war have a version of that cover now? Once upon a time the cliche was the one lighted window in the glowering mansion on the cover of every gothic romantic novel. Now its the freakin airplanes. Just search Amazon for "ww2 novels historical fiction" and you will see what I mean.
