Oh, good lord. I am beyond disgusted. If it wasn't so serious, I'd find it hilarious that a judge could be so blatantly corrupt.

How can I “like” a post which demonstrates the most corrupt and unqualified judge ignores the ruling and placates the insurrectionist in chief.

Her courtroom is a god’s* damned farce.

Is it a blasphemy if it is all the gods and not just the Christian god?

Fortunately I am not a lawyer! Is there not some legal beagle magic to have this biased judge removed from this case and the bench?💥

The 11th Circuit can refer her to a commission on competence.

We can fervently hope that they will do this!!

Outrageous. Can this be appealed?

Yes, and it will be.

Judge Aileen M. Cannon of the Southern District of Florida has a job to do and she's doing it, whether some folks like it or not. While Judge Cannon's and Special Master Judge Dearie's differences are procedural (having to do with process) as TC made clear their tug of war is over who controls the rules and, therefore, who gets the upper hand - Trump or the Justice Department? Cannon has authority over Dearie. She has the upper-hand. Could the 11th District Court of Appeals again play a role in modifying Cannon judging on behalf of Trump? That is the job she is doing. It is called 'Justice Trump's Way'.

Is it within the bounds of the Appeals Court's authority to remove Judge Cannon from the case given the extremely creative nature of her rulings?

Her phone logs, emails and social media postings beginning the day before she heard the Special Master request that should have gone to Judge Reinhardt become more interesting by the day. One wonders if we'll find out that she, like the Secret Service, changed her phone routinely sometime in the past couple of weeks.

Andrew Weissman (former Assistant US Attorney) on Lawrence O'Donnell's, The Last Word, tonight said Cannon's rulings don't amount to a hill beans -- slowing the process down a bit and shameful in her lack of respect for Dearie -- but no material harm.

If he says so, that's good news.

Weissmann doesn't speak of Cannon without being contemptuous, but emphatic that, although there will be some time lost, her recent moves were meaningless. McDonnell admitted that he had rehearsed ahead of the interview with Andrew, so it was a very thorough grilling. I don't think that I missed a thing.

Yes, it was a good informative interview.

Ah, glad you saw it, and you can trust me, she wrote with a wink and a smile.

It's more the irritation of having the whole affair drawn out even more when the actions of Judge Dearie and the Appeals Court suggested we might finally be approaching a point where we could see an end to it.

David--

Other people have commented on the question whether delay will hurt Trump more than it hinders the DOJ's case. IANAL, but it does seem unlikely to me that it will help Trump in the long run, especially if he keeps admitting guilt in public statements. I do note that in their response to DOJ's initial 11CCA appeal--to free access to the docs marked classified--the unanimous panel found persuasive DOJ's larger contention that Cannon had no standing to hear and allow a (an alleged) suit in equity. Whether or not there are any sub rosa communications, they could well respond to DOJ's new expedited appeal by simply taking the case out of her court.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

This boggles (and more) my mind. What is she being "paid" (future) OR what has she been threatened with??? One wonders. (And what threats or promises keep the GOP idiot squad "in line'. Mafia assisting?? Who knows??) As a novel plot, it would sound beyond crazy........

Good grief!! She is acting as Rump’s defense attorney. Just keep digging your hole Lucy Cannon. There won’t be a good way out!

Where in the Constitution does it say that her rulings have to be obeyed?

Expand full comment

Someone’s masked has slipped.

It’s so blatant now. Judges intervene in special master rulings sparingly. After all, the reason the judge appointed a Special Master is that the judge doesn’t have the time or expertise to go into the weeds. After the Special Master renders recommendations, then it’s time to object. This is rather blatant favoritism.

the way I read it, she's telling everybody who disagrees with her insanity to go fuck themselves. in the world all of us here grew up in, the judge in question would be going to great lengths to AVOID looking like a partisan hack. "but that was in another country" and (alas!) this wench ISN'T dead. and in those more innocent times, the wholesale destruction of our courts would also be performed so as to look like something else.

another part of myself, however, is beginning to feel like they can run, but....

I read this three times and still 🤬 "The 11th Circuit is going to have to bring some remedial education to bear in the coming appeal." Remedial and then some.

Does this mean that it's a hopeless situation? I am so angry, frustrated, and yet motivated to keep fighting any way I can... but honestly do we 'David's' stand a chance?!

Expand full comment

No, it's just delay. It's been pointed out that he should be allowed to keep his right to argue about "planted evidence" until trial, so as not to create reversible error in the conviction. According to Andrew Weissman, it's just delay of the inevitable.

And it makes me also believe once again that Trump thought he could use his document theft as a political tool, but things aren't going as planned.
