Unlike the "good" Republicans, who say nothing about the racism and antisemitism of too many in their ranks, as reported about what speakers said at Trump’s Nuremberg Ralies in Minden Nevada on Saturday and Mesa Arizona on Sunday, because their silence demonstrates their complicity, Democrats take the time to clean house immediately, as was the case today in Los Angeles, as reported tonight in Axios:
That's the difference between "them" and "us". It wasn't always that way. But the disease of denial and lies has metastasized in the GQP. It is killing the party from the inside out. And it is unleashing previously unspeakable thoughts. Think Tuberville - which makes me think Hitler and Lindbergh.
And it's not that much of a difference, unfortunately. It turns out Nury Martinez has done as little as she had to do. She issued that cringeworthy apology (I'm absolutely certain she didn't write it herself), and she resigned her position as President of the City Council, but she didn't resign her office - she has "taken a leave of absence". Obviously the plan is to lay low till it blows over, which doesn't surprise me with the scum that rise to the surface of LA politics; the only difference between now and the days of Philip Marlowe in LA are the clothing and hair styles, the cars, and the technology they carry around. Julius J. Epstein could still stop his car at the light at Sunset and Cherokee, look around at the people on the sidewalks, and come up with "Round up the usual suspects." (that's actually how he got the line)
What's interesting the watch is the uber-climber Kevin De León (who I wouldn't vote for for dogcatcher, I just didn't know this was the reason I couldn't stand him), the apology he issued on Sunday is even more cringeworthy than Martinez's. "There were comments made in the context of this meeting that are wholly inappropriate; and I regret appearing to condone and even contribute to certain insensitive comments made about a colleague and his family in private. I've reached out to that colleague personally. On that day, I fell short of the expectations we set for our leaders -- and I will hold myself to a higher standard."
I'll admit I don't know how anyone writes one of those that isn't cringeworthy.
Since there are still calls for both of them to resign from the council, I'm going to keep watching. My over-under is they announce departure at 5pm Friday, the "bad news hour" in American politics.
so let me this straight: Martinez (who is either a Latina or married to a Latino) is saying terrible things are Latinx people. I get it. I once lived in a largely Cuban building in Washington Heights and my late wife started organizing the other tenants because some Argentinian Jews were trying to turn the building (one step above a tenement, if that) into condos. it was an education in itself, discovering that people from virtually every country south of the border has some kind of negative opinion about anyone from any OTHER country in Middle or South America. ordinarily, this phenomenon is most blessedly NOT shared with the public. when it is, the result has a very bad look. many Jews are the same way. for example, if you mention the "Black Hats" to me, you will get an earful of unfiltered obscenity. ask them about me, and they'll say that I'm an atheist outcast; possibly even some kind of honorary goy.
but that's an insignificant observation.
some people like to joke about the fact that every two years, the election going on is referred to as the most important election EVER.
I was saddened and disgusted by the year-old "conversation" but THRILLED that multiple Democratic LEADERS immediately condemned the WORDS of their compatriots, resulting in the ACTION of a few resignations, with more, hopefully, to come. No soft-balling.
Well said.

TC. You were quoted in Robert Hubble’s column today. 👍
All publicity is good so long as they spell your name right. :-)
😘🤣
I want Al Franken back.
Yes!
"Silence is complicity."
The silence from the majority of the
Reputation party and the candidates
they're sponsoring for election this
November, as well as their fealty to
Trump, it could well be said, you could
actually hear a pin drop.
Thank you, TC for the follow-up on the
LA city council. I had read about Martinez
resignation but not Huerra.

the thing is, this time it's entirely TRUE.
I was saddened and disgusted by the year-old "conversation" but THRILLED that multiple Democratic LEADERS immediately condemned the WORDS of their compatriots, resulting in the ACTION of a few resignations, with more, hopefully, to come. No soft-balling.
There are no good Republicans simply because all they care about, every man jack of them, is power. The thirst for power corrupts the soul.
Any ‘Sambo’ name-calling?
