And the Senate should do a counterinvestigation, and put Warren in charge of it. Whatever the House does, do it in spades.

Interesting and sad note: A friend of mine who works in DC said the greatest questioner he ever saw on any committee was John Edwards. What a waste.

Edwardes was so full of himself he shot himself.

I live on the NC, and Edwards has a house close by. I saw a person ahead of me in line one night in the grocery store. He looked familiar, and I realized it was John Edwards. He was all by himself, and looked quite ordinary in shorts, shirt over a paunch, and flipflops. Standard warm weather attire here. I thought how low the mighty have fallen. Fame is very fleeting.

Ok I can’t come up with my own words tonight regarding these idiots with house majority. Bob Dylan always comes through

Idiot wind

Blowing every time you move your mouth

Blowing down the back roads headin' south

Idiot wind

Blowing every time you move your teeth

You're an idiot, babe

It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe

you've pretty much said it all about the subject at hand.

I just want to use the opportunity to talk about how galling it is every time I see or hear these scumbags referred to as "conservative" or even "ultra-conservative."

I recognize that it's shorthand, but words mean something, especially when they're used as often and in as many places as this particular designation.

"conservatism" IS an actual philosophy. it's one I've never had much use for (although I consider myself to be pretty "conservative" in most cultural matters), but it IS (or WAS) an actual school of thought. most of it is based on nasty, deeply flawed assumptions (the American Dream is alive and kicking, there are moral hazards associated with "entitlements," God speaks through the open market....one could go on but everybody knows what I'm saying), but there IS some philosophy involved.

what the people in question embrace is something else altogether. for something like the third day in a row, I'm gonna say "nihilism." when this is referred to as "conservatism," it's given a level of credibility it simply does not possess.

I'm not sure what the necessary semantic adjustment should be, but there are plenty of available terms to investigate. you've done plenty of the heavy lifting already. "seditionists," "reactionaries," "obstructionists," "nihilists" (there I go again), "scumbags" (probably too general, but it's so much fun to say or type). but "conservatives" is just flat-out wrong.

what's being conserved?

all I see is chaos.

There are "conservatives," there are "reactionaries" and there are "fascists." There might be 3 or 4 Republicans in the House who actually are "conservative," but most are in the other two categories, which are mutually supporting. These people call themselves "conservative" because it is an honorable term, unlike what they really are.

It used to be an honorable term. To me, it’s an abomination, just like they have tried to make liberal.

Jordan, who lacks the skill or the intelligence to investigate my dog’s butt, is a law school graduate. There’s no record of him passing the bar exam, and I have no idea whether he ever took it, but the little snot can at least kind of pretend to having a law degree.

Looks like he was tossed on his head a time or two too many. What the fuck is he doing in a leadership position in Congress???? Sorry I had to vent. The real question is how do we get through to the kool aid crowd that votes for these idiots. Or is it the absent crowd that doesn’t vote at all? Where do we direct our energy to make a change? Well that last sentence sounds like a polite nurse. Let me rephrase: how do we direct our energy to defeat these fascist assholes?

Keep on "mouthing off" - I love it.

Expand full comment

So you have a very feisty side as well as an intelligent one! Here's my answer to your question:

We direct our energy towards the turnout of Democratic and Independent voters. Register kids as soon as they are eligible. Focus on the people who are NOT fascist assholes.

There are a lot more of us and our numbers are growing. Their numbers are shrinking. Gen Y and Z are not buying their bullshit. They mostly embrace our tolerance and progressive ideas.

And then there is the concept we tossed around yesterday. "Covid is evolution's IQ test". Let 'em not vaccinate. Let 'em not wear masks. The grim reaper is not done with this pandemic yet. Sadly, they will drag some innocents with them. You know that better than any of us. But still...the science and modern medicine deniers are rolling dice and they are loaded on the losing side.

So as we "turn them under", we turn out - and out vote the remaining assholes.

Especially jordan. What in the world is wrong with his face? Was he born looking like a crazy ass fanatic or is that the result of years of being a threadbare suit cheap theatric do-nothing who could not pass any bar exam regardless of how many tries.

I look at him preening now with usurped power and he is nothing but a dangerous boy who has been whupped too many times.

The general opinion from the legal beagles on MSNBC is that the DOJ will refuse any subpoenas for a look at current ongoing investigations and evidence, and go to court to have such subpoenas thrown out. It is likely that by the time the committee is really up and running with staff, etc., there may be indictments ready, and by poking the bear, the people in the House and Senate who are possible subjects of such investigations will only encourage the DOJ to indict as many people as possible.....
