I find that more or less weekly, I need to send people to Tim Weiner's justly celebrated "Legacy of Ashes." reading this, I just naturally assumed that Brazilian fascist scumbags had taken their cue from us. but then I came to the paragraph where you mentioned Bolsanaro protesting election results in 2018, and now I think that possibly TFF got the cue from THEM. and two days in a row, I find myself using the word "nihilism." I have a feeling that I'm going to be using it a whole lot more often. nihilism might be a "cool" way to be the center of attention at a really shitty party, but it obviously has no place in any kind of government. and Bannon is, if nothing else, a nihilist through and through.

Yessir…the Kool-Aid drinkers are everywhere, it seems. We don’t have the monopoly on insurrections and the elevation of Bolsonaro is a prime example of the fascistic tendencies in all democracies. Just like trump, he appeals to the grievances of a vocal minority and empowers them to do the dirty work of overthrowing the duly elected choice of the people who reject his worldview. Of course, the coward ran away from the fate he deserved, hoping to return in triumph after the mob wrecks the government. Wonder what the military will do now…a coup in the works?
