I don’t know if anyone had the problem I have had with Substack for the past 24 hours - it would only load the page architecture - but the smoke-and-mirrors that is the internet has suddenly resolved things like they never were problems before.
Sometimes waiting fixes things. Usually after I have spent hours trying to fix my system. Then whoopie, some magic "suddenly resolved things like they never were problems before."
I have a question unrelated to your articles, but to Substack. I have been receiving emails from Substack over the past week that this or that person is "following" me on Substack. I have no idea what that means because I am a SUBSCRIBER to Substack, not a CONTRIBUTOR.
As far as I can tell, it's someone who has read your comments somewhere on Substack and decided either you were the kind of idiot they identified with, or was impressed by your "geometric logic" in discovering that there was indeed a copy of the key to the wardroom ice box made, and decided they wanted more of that brilliant stuff.
I'm certain that second reason is why I have been getting a lot of them too. It's just another way the Substack Gurus are screwing up the place trying to make it like Twitter and FleeceBlock, when most of us came here to get away from those idiots.
I'm not surprised that someone would identify with me as a fellow idiot, but that I might have "geometric logic" makes me laugh out loud! Perhaps Substack is using this mechanism to draw in more contributors?
Me, too. And it's someone with an empty bio and a not-yet published substack. Makes me feel a bit stalked. Got the message a week or so ago but nothing else so far. Perhaps Crystal M's comment below is an explanation.
Yes, it does feel a little stalk-light.I had only one “follower” with an empty profile. Speaking of stalk-light, trying to do all I can including writing Letters To Ed to major metro newspaper here in “freedom” state. Received anonymous snail mail letter quoting my letter to Ed, along with a litany of Fox talking points. 1st thought….that’s stalk-like….2nd thought….trying to get me to stop(hell,no)….3rd thought….they’re really desperate if they’re trying to intimidate seniors writing letters to Ed !
Actually it would be useful if it let you link to the COMMENTS the "subscriber" makes. You might discover other Contributors that you like. As it is, is seems to be a question of brownie points.
Ellen, I am also just a reader on Substack (not a writer) and I have acquired some followers over the past few months. One of them just followed me for a 2nd time!! I think they follow us in hopes that we'll follow them back and subscribe to their Substack. That's my "geometric logic" on it anyway.
Ellen, Substack Inc has a business model that creates NEW Substack "Authors'"
The word "Author's is a contractually defined term in Substack's 2023
'Publisher's Agreement'.
In any case Substack collects "Subscribers" ready to follow your personal Platform.& brilliance Author's like TC who have exceptional historical knowledge & the skills to deliver are well positioned.
I purportedly have 20-25 folks who want to read my legal stuff mixed in with my tart one Liners.
Go for it if it works for you!. Meanwhile, I subscribe to Casey Newton's Substack "Platformer" which deals with difficult digital matters.
Thank you. This is helpful. At this time, I don't think I have an original thought or expertise, so I prefer to learn from others and enjoy the perspectives of those who comment!
I just want to let you know how much my husband enjoys your military history posts. Thanks.
Thank you! I hope you'll consider getting him one of my books at the next gift-time-for-hubby. :-)
Already has 1 and more on the wish list

As we all do. :)
Glad you are back!
no probs the last 24 hrs.
They're picking on me again!
1. I'm not giving them any Brooklyn Style Espresso until they stop
2. They don't get to pet my dog or your cats!
Well...yes!
