Roy Cohn is the real story as his mentorship fully developed the malignancy that is trump. The only solace is that at the end of his life, he died in pain and alone as all his protégés and two-legged remoras abandoned him. He finally was disbarred but he never spent a minute in prison by delaying any and all legal punishments, something he taught trump as a Jedi master to a padawan. Or more like a Sith Lord, a true master of evil in human form, to his twisted apprentice…

I'm reading the book The Longest Con by Joe Conason. Fascinating look at the grift pre-Cohn, and then the connection between Cohn and Murdoch, Cohn and Nixon, and of course Cohn and Trump. So the relationship of Trump with Murdoch starts with Cohn. And then to think that Trump is the teacher to his sons, who are not that smart...ugh.

That was a well written Comment Dennis. Comment as literature. 👏🏻

I seem to remember there was a deathbed recantation for all his sins, and he came out. However, I may be remembering someone's tall tales. Does anybody know if this true and/or is it in the film?

Expand full comment

He never came out.

Cohn never admitted that he was gay and was dying from AIDS. He was abandoned by all who knew him in his final months, and even his buddy trump never visited him after word got out about his dirty little secret.

Wow!

Good sleuthing, TC. Such a well timed tidbit.

"rumored to be one of the surprise additions to the Telluride Film Festival."

That would make a noise!

Just looked online. Began today through Sept. 2. Let's hope the rumor is right.

Great news....great timing on the release in October. Of course Trump will “ love” it because- for good or bad- it is all about him!!! His handlers and puppeteers will see it as a conspiracy move by the “rats”, as they refer to Dems!!!

He is great at spinning bad publicity as a plus. Just think of the awards night for J6, etc. every time I thought he had jumped the shark, he wound up riding it with a cape on. How I would love for the truth with no bullschittery

Could this be a little "October surprise" courtesy of Hollywood?

Can. NOT. Wait to see this film!

😁 Heart attack time at

really be off the rails.

Gosh I sure hope so. The more unbalanced we can keep the 'traitor toddler' the less able he will be to plan and call out his demonic minions (Proud Boys, militias, etc., etc., ).

Sebastian Stan has too much jawline, a more generous mouth, and his nares are too normal. Aside from easy add ons like the hair, 45's most signature features are his pouty mouth, soft sided jawline, and teeny little nares that obviously deliver far too little oxygen to his big brain.

Stay safe, Mr. Stan. I hope you channel the hell out of our ex-President con man and are entirely convincing. With such a large portion of the population unable to tell the truth from fiction, it just may be that fiction is the only way to bring them the truth.

Miracles, at least minor ones, apparently do still happen.

I hope Trump will bump up demand for the film by whining and suing and accusing the Obamas and Pelosi of arranging the film's premiere via their connections with the "elites". Trump's code of conduct has always been Cohnism, the scripture provided by one of 20th Century's most self-loathing creatures. And we have to admit that Cohnism has carried Trump pretty far, right up to the White House. But cosmic justice may see Trump live out those nine years Ty Cobb, his former lawyer, said he'll likely spend in prison, thereby departing the scene in a rancid and publicly wretched way not dissimilar to that of Cohn at the time.

Chump was always asking where is my Roy Cohn. Maybe he will watch to remember his evil mentor.

Expand full comment

All of the Roy Cohn wannabes have already glommed onto him, but they're just wannabes, folks who think they're way too smart by half. And they've all had to get their own lawyers, except for Kellyanne Conway. So far.

Amazing how a few really horrible excuses for humanity can affect so many lives in so many horrible ways. Doesn’t say much for our ability to separate wheat from chaff…

I hope Trump does his 'whining and suing.' The more he complains about the movie, the more he validates the truth of the movie.

“Any publicity is good publicity”

More publicity:

'“The Apprentice” premiered in May at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it immediately turned into a sociopolitical lightning rod. In a statement at the time, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung blasted the movie as “pure malicious defamation.”

“We will be filing a lawsuit to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers,” Cheung said. “This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked.” (It’s unclear whether the campaign has filed a lawsuit.)'

Lies! Lies? Imagine that. Lies and sensationalism are the coin of the realm in Trump world. Cheung must have been a failed stand-up comic in a previous life, or perhaps in the next one.
