Whenever there is a disaster anywhere in the entire world, World Central Kitchen is onsite virtually immediately. Around the globe, they gather local cooks to provide the types of food those in need are used to. Chef José Andrés is a true mensch. Please consider regularly supporting WCK if you can.

Always a blessing when one’s area is not hit as hard as predicted. In this case, Tampa Bay. We lucked out. But that always means, it hit someplace else so much harder. The beautiful islands off Ft Myers, Sanibel and Captiva, will take decades to recover.

Thank you for all the thoughts. We are digging out from all the debris.

Yeah, another FL friend says the news is those islands will take years just to get to where they're not devastated. He's glad he removed dangerous trees, since two neighbors have devastated houses with trees toppled over on them.

Continued best wishes for continued good luck!

Christine,

So glad to hear you are ok. You are so right about one escapes another gets clobbered. But a Tampa Bay hit would have been catastrophic in so many ways!!

We can't lose you from these substacks so happy you are safe. I spent hours raking this morning and checking in with neighbors. Our neighbors have been fabulous!

Thank you, Sister. Have a feeling it will be awhile for power to come back. Outages so random. So good to see neighbors as a community.

I live in Sarasota, but evacuated to Gainesville. My apartment came through undamaged, and I have power, so I’m going home tomorrow. I have friends in Naples and Ft. Myers I haven’t heard from yet and it is very bad, especially in Ft. Myers.

Good to know your good news, I was thinking about you yesterday, Andy. Hopefully all the animals at the veterinary hospital are OK too.

WCK is great!

Team Rubicon also staged response teams before Ian hit. Veteran and medical teams help with clearing roads, rescues, treating injuries, tarping missing/damaged roofs, and wherever they’re needed.

Thank you, TC. I just got power back and internet. Really missed you all.

Here in Central Florida lots of freshwater flooding--lakes and rivers. Devastating for so many families. But the damage done by the ocean in Ft Myers and Naples was beyond imagining. John and I were lucky as we are between two lakes but we avoided flooding. Just covered in tree debris with whole trees down near us.

I have been through lots of hurricanes here in Florida but Ian was the most frightening and damaging. The good news is how people are helping one another.

Your shout-out for WCK is an example. Many thanks to you and for you!
