My husband and I watched this unbelievable rally with joy and sincere enthusiasm. It reminded me of the Beatles in the early days. I've never seen anything like this. My God, the energy was palpable through the television screen. Walz knocked it out of the park, and it was obvious he and Kamala were having a blast. This isn't politics. This is a reawakening of pure unadulterated joy for America.
I may be around your age, TC, but before I read this and after watching every second of the roll out of the team I was remembering politics of my youth being fun.
I didn’t understand that much at the time but all us kids loved chanting “I like Ike” and kids can tell a good guy when they see one. I was a full fledged political junkie during the Kennedy years not just because I was an 18 year old Irish Catholic in Philadelphia ( We hold the best rallies.) but because it was fun to be politically active. Tonight I felt that rush again and the momentum to continue to send texts and write postcards and letters and get out the vote and the voters. Never let me forgot the joy of Josh Shapiro’s impassioned speech and the winning and fun spirit of our Democratic team. And please let Jimmy Carter live long enough to caste his vote for Kamala and Tim. It would be the icing on the cake of a special political season.
You and me too Tom. I never expected to FEEL that energy. I was there (MSNBC) and it was REAL.I just couldn't sit there. I was up and down and waving my arms. Walz got a roar as he started and told the crowd that if they needed to get a bridge fixed, talk to Josh Shapio. And he MEANT IT! Then it was off to the races.
What a time warp the past two weeks have been. So hope honesty and decency can defeat dirty politics and 100% evil. The creative machinations need to be exposed and labeled and trampled into the manure surrounding every MAGAt and oligarch. Right is on our side.
America's blood pressure returned to normal. They represent the American center with views the normal right and normal left can agree upon. And the policies were couched in terms of needs and criteria that has broad appeal rather than simply arbitrary unlimited boundaries. IE. We can all be friends again. I think Eisenhower is looking down and thinking, "finally!"
I alternated between laughing out loud and having tears in my eyes watching this rally. It was historic and energizing and I can't wait for November to celebrate the win!
I was watching Ms Harris’s face as she listened to Mr Walz energizing speech and I swear she had pure admiration for what he was saying, and that she had definitely made the right choice. All this energy in just two weeks is simply astounding. I’m proud to be an American, and I’m convinced that this country will reach its 250th birthday with competent and knowledgeable people at the helm. I can’t wait for July 4th, 2026!
Did you see her face when Walz said, "And I got to tell you: I can't wait to debate the guy. That is, if he's willing to get off the couch and show up."
"I’m glad I have lived long enough to see this." Exactly! I remember 1968 was my first awareness election where I understood what was happening. What promise and then, what an awful year.
I loved that Josh Shapiro opened the rally - funny, sharp and generous. I loved that Tim Walz stood, beaming!, behind Kamala Harris while she introduced him and his extraordinary normalcy - he's really got the whole package. I read that he'd never spoken off a teleprompter and needed some coaching. True or not, it's totally in line with who he is.
I'm now on the Rural Americans for Kamala call. Another small donation happily given. Our local Dems Committee (rural red VA) has our fundraiser tomorrow night. We sold out and even expect folks to show without tickets tomorrow. SO EXCITING!
I was seventeen when a history teacher at Berkeley High suggested we work on a political campaign as part of our coursework. I worked on RFK's campaign, had my first champagne at campaign headquarters, came home, and learned that RFK had been assassinated. I went to college and protested Vietnam by going into the conservative communities surrounding Humboldt State College to get them to understand the injustice of it all. I transferred mid-sophomore year back to UC Berkeley. Went to anti-war movements. Studied hard. Graduated with honors with an individual major in "Creative Politics." And now I have lived long enough to see something beautiful emerging from the mud and muck and despair of Trickle Down Economics which appears to have culminated in the Trump/Vance ticket. I hope this is the ticket to oblivion for the mindless party of hate, grievance, and greed. No mud no Lotus. Good riddance to rubbish. Let's pass the torch of democracy and justice to another generation of Americans. They, and we deserve it.
Walz certainly doesn’t lack energy or charisma and like Harris, when he speaks policy, maybe those who are undecided and even some Republicans will realize they are not espousing some far left radical agenda, but good, proven, common sense policy that helps the majority of Americans.
Yes, it will be interesting to see what sentence Judge Merchan hands down next month. I'd even be happy to see 100 hours of community service wherein he has to tidy up the courthouse or stab litter in Central Park. You know, actual service to others.
All the comments have me as jazzed as the rally! I feel so filled with hope for the future and for the next generations. 90 days but for many voting will begin sooner. Maybe, just maybe, the joy and the hope will overcome the delusional dystopia of the gop and the death wish duo, Project 2025, and all the weirdos who have hitched their wagons to a lower. Thanks Tom for stirring words.

Pure magic not unlike the Beatles.
You can't manufacture this----it is pure magic!

Yes to all that.
Yes, yes, TC! I watched and clapped, and laughed, chanted, and high-fived. Hope, joy, true love of country and its people! We can do this!

Let’s let the magical mystical tour proceed!
LOVE THAT!!

We were all laughing at that.
That was a winner!!!

We're going to remain a democracy!!! I don't have to leave!! And the orange sadist will be spending the rest of his life -- IN JAIL!!!

Well, maybe... 5,000 hours?
What a dynamic duo they are! It all just feels sooooo right!
Love your enthusiasm Tom, and I'm with Harris/Walz all the way to the White House.
