Really beautiful story and beautiful little girl. Sixteen (plus) years? She looks like a little barn cat I called Mouse - she lived upstairs at the barn where I boarded my horse. I brought one of her kittens home named Dolly, who was 19 when she died. The story of Mouse is one thats just too hard to even think about & absolutely not one I would tell.
Glad youre feeling better and that Robyn has decided its safe to be closer!
So glad you are feeling better. ( Don’t let DeSantis hear that the boosters work!!!)
I sense the assist of Jurate’s spirit in this paradigm shift in Robyn. Also, I am totally sure that our pets respond on intuitive levels we humans have long ago lost.
I really like the way you totally respected her need to proceed gingerly. As others have said here, a parable of building trust. TY, TC.
Robyn + Tom = Two wild ones came together. They are teaching us lessons. Importantly, trust sometimes takes a long time. Tom had the best of intentions, and he's a gentle, genius lamb around the kitties. In some situations Tom is a lamb. I'm still absorbing that lesson. Robyn + Tom are this week's fabulous feline love story. Meow, meow 💓! .
That is lovely. And I have to say, having had four very domestic cats during our marriage, I have found there's little rhyme or reason--just let them do what they do. Our boy Kirby was a puppy--he followed me around. Abigail took after her predecessor Cleo--she disdained most everyone and everything. As for the fourth, well, Mattie was proof that a cat is not necessarily intelligent.
Most important, though, it's great that COVID is now in the rear-view mirror. Almost two weeks ago, we got our FOURTH boosters--and the day after I scheduled them, I saw an ad saying that if your last booster was before September, you should do it. Ours had been in early September, but mine was too soon--I had a mild case late in July.
What a lovely story and beautiful photos of Robyn. And so glad you are feeling better from the bout with THE virus. Goodness. It is so lovely to have wonderful creaturely presences nearby. They know when their human needs some extra care. Blessings and keep recovering.
That's awesome on a couple of levels. You have a sweet new lap kitty and you kicked the butt of your covid. Congratulations on both counts!
My wife picked up covid last year. She was miserable for a few days, and finally submitted to getting Paxlovid when her temperature got scary high. The Paxlovid did its thing, and the covid was under control within 24 hours. Medical science is sure a blessing.
What wonderful news! Sweet for you and Robyn especially after so many years of being indoor feral. I can't think of much more rewarding than this kitty starting to trust you! Also, glad your covid has been so mild. Keep us informed of Robyn's progress, please.
I think Robyn finally saw a vacuum that needed filling and she filled it after a longtime assessment of your household, the chow situation, and the other cats. She may be far less feral than was thought and seized her well calculated moment.
Happy that you've beaten back covid and are able to continue to write and share what you know.
The best part of this is the knowledge that you feel better. But Robyn's story and decision to get close to you is pretty wonderful too! Not being a cat person, I have limited talent in reading feline body english but I do think I can see the wheels turning in her mind and they seemed to be turning towards joining the family and dropping her feral fears. But then what do I know -I'm a dog person. Give her a scratch behind the ears for me.

Robyn just waited 16 years until you needed her and the love she had to give.

Well, I guess I got a "natural" booster this time. :-)
Better prosecute Fauci for that one. :)
Lordy
After reading your comment, Michael, I checked my vax record card. Thank you! I like the descriptions of your three cats, too.
Wow..💙 this. Jurate surrounds. Also love you’re feeling well enough to post…and make us all feel better.

Great story, thanks TC and I'm glad to hear you're recovering in good company. Peace be with you and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

It's getting kinda dusty in here, ya bastard.
You are one lucky mofo, to give a ball of fur a forever home and your ego demanded nothing, absolutely fucking nothing from that act. Righteous!😻😽
Ah. Eventually our cat may love me. Worthy I must first be.
At that point, you'll also be able to pick up Mjolnir.
Would I even know what that was or whether I should report to urgent care?
Not unless you're familiar with Norse mythology or the Marvel Comic Universe.
My Q exactly…
If your days off are Monday and Tuesday, Sunday is Friday.
I Laughed Out Loud. :-)
That is just too much after DST; hard enough to stay “oriented,” but some cats can “stay the course” while some “stray.”
Glad you are feeling better Tom. I wonder- who healed who? Amazing that after 16 years she came out of hiding and spent so much time in your lap!
Thanks for a sweet happy story today. 😘
