Off to the first hastily organized Women’s March event in my city. Today at 5 pm. I’ll be counting carefully how many men are standing shoulder to shoulder with the women. It’s important.
If they do overturn Roe, it will be the biggest gift possible for the Dems. It will piss off roughly half of the electorate, red, blue and purple. If Dems can stay on message, the resulting majority in both houses will be able to pass legislation reinstating a woman's right to choose, as well as pass those other bills that Manchin scuttled.

I subscribe to Preet Bharara's podcast and in today's weekly discussion with Joyce Vance, they both pointed out that in the past, when SCOTUS reversed a prior decision, it was in the service of expanding freedoms and, therefore, enhancing individuals' autonomy. this reversal is the first time that a reversal was used to do the exact opposite. and, as you point out, if Alito would lie under oath to a Senate committee, why the fuck wouldn't he lie in a decision? he's in no danger of perjuring himself in a DECISION, after all. the implications and certain repercussions of this opinion are all pretty obvious and have been stated over and over again, but that does NOT make them less relevant, less horrifying, less misogynistic or finally, less racist/classist. this talk of a nationwide abortion ban is one I cannot yet wrap my mind around and feels (to me, at any rate) like it constitutes enough overreach to backfire. I wish, hope, whatever else might help. on that same podcast, it was suggested that part of Alito's calculation might be based on his cynical (he IS a cynical motherfucker, however much he might let "religion" be the backup he relies on when he needs to tell himself something to silence the still, small voice of reason that MUST very occasionally invade his thoughts...or am I being too optimistic yet again?) calculation that the voting public has such a short memory that most of them will have forgotten all about this by Election Day. if I've ever heard a call to arms, this bullshit is IT.
