the extraordinary genius of dogs surprises me--at the very least, several times a week. especially herding dogs and, even more especially, English Shepherds and (in their much less mellow, much more driven way) Border Collies.
"genius" is the only appropriate word. of course, sometimes genius makes things a good deal more complicated than they need to be. but I'm cool with the trade-off.
I've tried once or twice, and it's...well, I was defeated after the first two minutes. a great herding dog could, I think, manage. but I could be entirely wrong.
