Thanks, Tom for re-posting this. It really is well said and captures what most of us feel.

I fucking hate the NYT. Rudy Guliani was also front and center, too. It's beyond stupid.

One thing I know for certain - even though I’m considerably older than Loomer - she’ll pass on before I’m gone after a dose of Botox hits her last remaining handful of neurons and she keels over into a pile of cat dung. A man can dream, can’t he?

Where do people like these come from?

Gotta keep hammering NYT and WaPo with caustic, well thought out letters. It seema to be working a bit, in that they now acknowledge that "Sanewashing" is real and in practice. They have yet to cut out the crap yet, though. Keep hammering them and even tell them what advertizers you are boycotting.Keep up the great and insightful posts, Tom. GAAA is screamed so often nowadays that throat syrup is in short supply!

I became familiar with Brian and subscribed to him because of a repost of yours awhile ago so I thank you again, Tom.

I truly try not to not allow the NYT to get to me but I see these headlines because after all these years they still try to entice me to resubscribe by sending teaser hedes and initial 'graphs. This insenses me yet again.

Yesterday we flew home from Logan after time spent w family and at my husband's brother's celebration of life. He wanted a newspaper for the trip. Only one left was NYT. Full lead left column about Trump tariff considerations. Nada about the "debate" other than a referral to full debate online below the fold within the Trump article. Surprise surprise.

OMG! I emailed the NYT a few days ago after their sanewashed article about trump’s response to the childcare question with his rambled nonsense about tariffs solving the problem. I asked if any of their reporters had learned how tariffs work yet and told them it was their duty to educate the public. My grandfather practiced law in Manhattan and I was raised to highly respect the NYT. No more!

That truly is pathetic.

"And yet, there are no blaring ALL CAPS headlines in America’s major newspapers that Donald Trump’s guest of honor to a 9/11 memorial is a white nationalist 9/11 truther and self-proclaimed bigot" because of course there weren't.

I think this is the first time I’ve read that 9/11 was a win for Trump because it meant he had the tallest buildings. The man is criminally insane.

And of course, he actually didn't have the tallest building in downtown NYC. Typical Trump bullshittery.

Now that little hummer I do remember from years ago! His head is empty!

I have resembled The Scream for a very long time. I hate what the press has become. Walter Cronkite retired in March 1981. Ronnie imported Rupert in Jan 1981. And immediately went to work to destroy our communication system. Good job, Rupert, they smelled your Schitt and loved it.

Too, too true. I loathe Rupert Murdoch and his life's work in dumbing down and brain-washing Americans with his trashy media network.

Back from a long-planned but far too brief vacation, I must roll up my sleeves and get to work on my remaining postcards. I'm signed up for a 12 hour shift as a poll worker for our single voting location (very small rural town!). We have election observers from both parties, but 99% of the folks here are not wild-eyed, conspiracy adherents and there has never been a speck of trouble. As a town we don't have enough votes to make it worthwhile for anyone to to intimidate or raise any ruckus.

Thanks, TL, for working at the polls. I did that for years until the 12-hour day got to be too much for me. Now I'm writing postcards for Postcards to Swing States. My arthritis isn't great, but I can write two a day. We do what we can. As Hilary said, "Do something!"

She's in mourning for what

she used to be.

This was a great share Tom,

thanks. I just subscribed.👍

Thank you for sharing this. It helps. I’m no fan of crazy, which bringing a conspiracy theory bigoted white supremest to a 9/11 memorial certainly is. It is rude, crude, socially unacceptable and toxic. It’s the Tacky and Tasteless moron show that’s not worth watching. Pull the plug.

People can have opinions, as in reasoned assessments, and disagree, but when I ask a maga--and there are a few in my family--why they plan to vote for TFG, all they can say is that they "just like him" and that he "speaks his mind." That's it. Their mental evaluation of him is the equivalent of liking babies because they're engaging and cry a lot. There is no measure taken beyond that point because none is needed when you "just like him." No need to recall past conduct. No need to seek information, not even from the AllTabloidsAlltheTime. The glory days of the American press died with I.F. Stone, Jimmy Breslin, Mike Royko, Sidney Harris, Cronkite, Runyon, Baker, and maybe Bernstein.

Methinks you're overthinking this. It's less about the "banality of crazy" and more about the "banality of white maleness." Which transcends class differences. This is nothing new, as I've been reminded by reading Heather Cox Richardson's HOW THE SOUTH WON THE CIVIL WAR (2020): white male working stiffs sided with white male oligarchs because siding with black male (and, gods forbid, female) working stiffs, most of whom were enslaved, was literally unthinkable.

I read somewhere (dont remember where) that when shaking hands at 9/11 ceremony with Kamala, Trump attempted to pull her forward - supposedly as a "dominant" gesture? I could believe he would try - but it may have also just been someone's pipe dream.

I saw that, too, and that she resisted it!

That's his signature power play. She probably anticipated it!

Good post Tom, thanks. I do question the accuracy of the assumption that most Americans accept the craziness of the failed insurrectionist. Check the betting lines of the professional odds makers instead of the polls.
