"Polls have become less accurate as they struggle to get people to answer their phones..." Yes. And who are the people who never answer a call from an unknown number? Hint: anyone with a brain.

It raises my blood pressure to a dangerous point to read all the BS about the polls and the headlines that say things like (I'm not making this up — CNN did), "Biden’s unpopularity could give Trump his shot at reclaiming power." It is appalling how news media slavers away at trying to create self-fulfilling prophecies so they can manufacture the horse race they so desire. It's craven and traitorous to every principle of journalism, and if 2026 goes sideways, the media will bear much of the blame. Not that they'll care, sadly.

Robert Hubbell on 4 Sept wrote an almost identical essay about the Wall Street Journal, and how their "poll" was conducted to achieve a predetermined end result. Rupert hates the president and the polling company they used has been a mouthpiece for the insipid clown who lost the last election. CNN and the WSJ came to the same conclusions, which shows you that polling data needs to be placed with the toilet paper rolls with the insipid ones photos on every segment. There is so much dishonesty in MSM, all intended to make a profit at the expense of the truth, which only seems to matter if you get drug into court and have to pay for the lies, ie FucksNews. I think CNN's bias can be attributed to John Malone, Ted Turner's life long adversary and now the owner of many of his signature businesses. Malone controls Liberty Media, and Liberty controls CNN, among many other things. We need to bring back the "Fairness Doctrine", and get corporate money out of politics, if it's not already too late, I guess we'll know next year.

Rupert would much rather lie than tell the truth about anything. Machiavellian manipulation is his speciality.

I hope I'm not repeating myself here, but I did my own little "poll" a couple of days ago. I'm one of those people on FB who doesn't "friend request" everyone I meet, and I periodically do a "cleansing" of riffraff who somehow show up on my page...so my "friends" total is too low for any meaningful result: 678. I just asked two simple questions: have any of you ever been polled and do you know anyone who has been polled? (My own answer to both questions is no and no.) Of that 678, twelve responded. Of the twelve, only four had been "polled." One had been "polled" in a mall about favorite restaurants. One had been "polled" by telephone about environmental issues. The other two had declined to respond. So, my "poll" was absolutely worthless in terms of meaning - as are most.

As Pat Ebervein already noted, anyone with a brain doesn't answer a call from an unknown number, so telephone "polling" should be taken with a grain of salt.

My guess is that the "poll cats" are terrified they're about to lose their means of paying the bills. And they don't know how to fix that. As far as I'm concerned, ALL polls should be suspect. As for those still hungering for the poll du jour, I'd recommend first noting who is serving it up - CNN is not the only disreputable purchaser and purveyor of tainted ingredients. Polls should come with a warning label: be careful what you swallow. This item has passed its expiration date.

Thank you. Listening in the car yesterday as they breathlessly “reported” the results had my hair on fire. I’ve given up on CNN. Hub was in charge of the channel.

I don't look for any poll results, even from trusted news sites like Reuters with

with their IPOS. Most especially this far out from

the election. Even if they

boosted the number polled

to 5,000, "equally" divided,

it does not represent the

true voting population of

this country and to me, is

worthless. That's just the

theway I feel and think about

polls.

One way to bollix the polls is for every liberal contacted to "self identify" as Republican and then answer the straight liberal line. The problem is that most liberals are too smart to answer unknown telephone calls.

I've gotten several polling calls and answered the landline because the caller ID let me know who the group was. Got several from the NRA and RNC and enjoyed messing with their questions. But I am only one responder.

Love the Cretin News Network. I used to watch but it’s been years. When they started sounding like Fox, I ditched them. The polling is meant to be self-fulfilling prophecies, predict it and it will happen. BULL SCHITT. Only morons will buy that. Sadly, there are plenty of MAGAt morons in our citizenry. I am not as confident that Biden will win. Wish that I could be. More than a few states have passed voter “integrity” laws, for the purpose of suppressing votes. The Repub clowns will stop at nothing…. Even worse, there are traitorous government entities working hard every day to destabilize, destroy, defund, damage and disrupt every government function.

Joe has committed no crimes or done anything to warrant impeachment. But creating chaos and blaming others for your own dirty tricks is the Republican go to. Wish MSM would point that out…

Bless you TC for stating this poll problem so clearly. Polling is big business and it’s wrong, lazy and corrupt to not emphasize the sampling in the headline or first paragraph. If there were an honest headline that 800 maybe republicants thought blah blah blah we would all say pooh, pooh, pooh.

I always assigned my journalism class to research the 1936 Literary Digest telephone poll and its ‘scientific’ rigor by selecting telephone households. 1936, still in the grasp of a depression … now tell me what sort of household was likely to have a telephone in 1936, let alone a direct number line.

Five Thirty-Eight should have known how scattershot their methodology was going to be in a smartphone environment. Like taking a sextant fix at midnight under no moon and under a deck tarp.

What these polls actually demonstrate is that CNN is doing a crappy job of reporting the news, which skews any poll that gathers “opinions” of events that have never been supported by actual evidence. The fact that “believe” unsubstantiated claims of corruption without basis is an indictment of the news sources they listen to. CNN is courting the mob because to do otherwise is bad for the make believe business they travel in
