Just read a good description of Quiverin' Qevin:

The Tom Wambsgans of the House.

perfect! although I think that Tom is probably a tiny bit brighter than Qev.

that was NOT a joke.

or rather, it IS a joke but I still think it's true.

Just goes to show Steven Sondheim was right - "Send in the clowns.....don't bother, they're here....."

Clever, Culver! 🤣

It's a dysfunctional clown show but nothing compared to the deranged Roman Emperors who held the throne hundreds of years before the collapse of their empire. The difference here is that the climate breakdown is going to cut this one short a few decades from now.

There is still time for the needy attention-seeking zealots on the right to poke at this deal without killing it. They are still taking their mindless orders from the Thug in Exile. If they let it sail through they will make him weep, which won't go over well in the purple districts' GOP bases. As for making us look like a dysfunctional clown show on the world stage, I think we're stuck with that image as long as the media keeps helping project it with their rapt attention to the zealots.

Thjere's an interesting analysis of the TIE and his ttitude on this. This sort of stuff means nothing to him, so unless something happens to make him think he'd campaign on it, he won't say anything. Right now other than telling them to "do a default" two weeks ago he's said nothing about this deal. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Of course if Biden had done what he should have done and either minted the coin or invoked the 14th, then told republicans to get stuffed, we would be viewed as a clown show, unfortunately. Meanwhile, don't think for a second that the nuts who populate the republican caucus care about being associated with a default; they think that would be fine. As for Kremlin Kevin, why isn't he in prison for treason?

The solution is a Democrtic Majority in both houses in 2025 and a vote to make The Gephardt Rule (that the House passes a budget is deemed authorization to increase the debt limit to cover the new spending) a law. Get rid of the debt limit by law.

Here's hoping, but hope is not a good plan.

Hope has not been a good plan for me for the past 40 years. Neither has draining my resources for sanity while billionaires flood the morons with enough money to bury them head high

"Hope for the best, while preparing for the worst" is my general aim in life. Results seem to average out somewhere near the middle. Contentment can be a rewarding target.

it strikes me as essential, unless we want to see this shit happen over and over and over...

So, tomorrow, instead of watching the nutcases on "Dr. Pimple Popper," we get to be treated to the Flying Monkey Brigade on CSPAN. I'd rather be on a plane sitting next to Ted Striker.

Your summation is excellent and is the central, although generally ignored, issue in this whole conversation.

Thank you for your clear summary of where we have been and are, at the moment, with deficit deal: TBD.

Side question, will you accompany McCarthy to the beach?

Only if I can throw him in.

Lol, TC That is reason enough to tag along. Please get it covered with pics.

TC, you just never know what will happen with these clowns.

Changing topics entirely, I think you should write a post about Ernie Pyle.

I was once in his house in Albuquerque when I was a kid. My dad took me there. It was a museum to him.

It was/is a small stucco house that, when I lived in Abq in the late 1960s, was a branch library which I visited once. Very small and unassuming house. At some time before that I had come across a very old paperback with a collection of selected Ernie Pyle columns from the front. I was impressed to learn about him and about the experiences he recorded.

yes! a new biography and a LONG audiobook selection of his pieces came out yesterday.

I've always thought "The Story of GI Joe" is one of the best war movies made dutrng the war. it also made Mitchum a megastar.

What was the first movie Mitchum got noticed in (hint: a famous war movie)?

Thanks for this cogent analysis. Newly elected MAGA representative Van Orden sent the bill out to everyone who signed up to be on his mailing list to read and provide a recommendation for him to vote for or against the bill. Suspect he will report the tally and go with the flow.
