For those who wonder how the guy who had a reputation he worked hard to get as a “moderate’s moderate” in the Senate can be the most progressive Democratic President since Lyndon Johnson, or maybe even Harry Truman, believe him when he talks about growing up working class in Scranton.
You buy a car. You sign up with a "ride company". You provide their customers with a service. You are working for them. But you are not. The car costs a bundle to maintain. Oops.
The "independent contractor" or "gig worker" scam is just another version of the man keeping the rest of us under his thumb.
Some of these "disruptive" technologies are really just masquerading as cons that exploit people. Uber is great unless you are a driver.
In my little town, a shark real estate woman has bought up most of the available lovely old homes, converted them into AirBnBs, thus removing them as residences from a community which has already outgrown its housing AND by doing so, she is not paying taxes that support our local community. She lives in Austin, but is literally ruining all the neighboring small towns with her greed and avarice.
The '... most progressive Democratic President since Lyndon Johnson, or maybe even Harry Truman,...'
- DARK BRANDON STRIKES AGAIN
…JOE BIDEN takes the steering wheel away from Uber and Lyft. Proposed rule by the Department of Labor would guarantee a raise for the thousands of Uber and Lyft drivers in California and more importantly, qualify those drivers for overtime pay and require their employers to pay into Social Security and unemployment insurance.
JOE BIDEN - this working class man from Scranton - who knew? The man's a REVOLUTIONARY!
LOOKIE HERE!
- The Inflation Reduction Act
- PACT Act – the largest single bill to address our service members’ exposure to burn pits and other toxins in American history.
-The CHIPS and Science Act - compete with China by bringing manufacturing jobs back to America.
-American Rescue Plan - an unprecedented $1.9 trillion package that helped combat COVID-19 and supercharge a historic economic recovery.
-Biggest year of job growth in American history
-Bipartisan Infrastructure Law -building an infrastructure decade.
MaryPat, This isn't the first time nor last for me to say, 'I love you... and that you are my friend.' Your knowing, caring, supporting and humor here and wherever you are that's what I love.
I'll confess to minimal familiarity with labor law; what is to prevent independent contractors from forming a voluntary association (union) to engage in collective negotiation with a hiring organization?
(1) The independent contractors forming such an association would not have the protections of the National Labor Relations Board and the statutes it administers. (2) Such an association would likely be deemed a combination to unreasonably restrain interstate trade in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act (potential federal felony), and possibly the Federal Trade Commission Act.

And someday ask me what I think about AirBnB.
"Good government is the solution!"
Fuck you Ronnie.
Personally, I am in favor of fixing Silly-Con Valley with a 50-megaton H-bomb.
Would a few drone strikes make you happy, TC? My son teaches h.s. English and ethics (yes, it's still taught in some public schools) in Los Gatos.
The problem with my proposal is it wouldn't be limited to the right people. :-)

And undoubtedly a Republican, like all real estate scum.
Well, I happen to know a couple who are staunch Dems! Two. LOL!

Mutual Admiration Society Fern!
Big business “always” finds which strings afford them maximum leverage
Money buys them lawyers that manipulate the gobbledeegook that serves as contracts
The rest of us stare in bewilderment
Bravo!

Thanks for this knowledge.
Thanks Gary.
Me, too!
