Nancy Mace went to The Citadel for her higher education, and was the first woman to graduate from that university--a very hidebound military school in (surprise!) South Carolina. I'm sure she endured a great deal of hazing, bigotry, and possibly outright violence during her four years there. She could have grown past that and said she's going to be better than the people she went to school with. Obviously, she is either unwilling or incapable of doing that.
Sarah McBride basically rolled her eyes and said this wasn't her first rodeo in dealing with anti-trans hate, itself sad, but the fact she's holding her head up and not even giving the whiff of being a victim is exactly how to play it.
