Nury Martinez has resigned from the Los Angeles City Council in the fallout of leaked audio in which she and two other councilmembers were caught making racist remarks.
The Democratic Party has had a fairly spectacular run here in California and the state is better for it. But we Democrats have to remember Lord Acton’s observation about power. If we are to survive our own success, we need to step up and be as virtuous as we can be. Those anti-black sentiments were truly shocking. All three need to retire from politics.
Nury Martinez’s comments about Concilman Bonin’s child’s behavior was made about year ago. Apparently, if it were up to her, she would have taken a 3 year old child “around the corner and given him beat down.” She seemed to be thoroughly enjoying her cruelty and viciousness. The L.A. Times writes her political career is in a political free fall. Hope she thoroughly enjoys that too.
Truly a fine mess, heh? No matter the party, fiefdoms are zero sum games. What's with the playground idea that you have to lose so I can win...just play the game fair and square.
On second thought, playgrounds are usually pretty fair; kids know better.
When you have someone presenting an alternative that people might "buy," it forces you to be sure what you're presenting for "purchase" is good value for their "money." Otherwise it's just neighborhood gangs ripping each other off.
it seems to be taking certain people a long time to realize that at this point in history, the ears the walls have have their own ears which have THEIR ears, etc. ad nauseum. if she'd kept her stupid mouth shut, her heart would be more or less intact, hard though it obviously is.
Alright, damn it. You finally wore me down. It was the last paragraph you wrote here that finally had me hitting the paid subscriber button after being a Fine Mess Freeloader for quite some time. You may regret having finally gotten me to take the plunge, since I don't agree with some of the stuff you post or some of the 'language' you use on occasion. And since I can now 'comment', I just may end up telling you about it. (I'm neither a Republican nor a Democrat, nor a prude when it comes to language, just not a fan of 'over the top' language when it diminishes the point being made. Which in your case is often a good one.)
Be that as it may, you are a credible voice and a very good writer - for whatever that's worth coming from someone like me - and anyone willing to make the point you made in that last paragraph is definitely OK in my book, whether I agree with all of their "politics" or not. And that's what convinced me to go "paid". Hope you'll make this point a little more often, as a lot of people need to be reminded of it. And if you 'forget', maybe I'll remind you. :-D !!
Given that I really appreciate the posts I see you make elsewhere, I will be looking forward to them here, and I would really regret not getting stuff I have to pay attention to dammit, whether I like it or not. I'm sure others here will too.
Thank you very much. I really take this as a compliment.
Good. I really meant it to be. I do appreciate all the work you must put into publishing this 'Mess'. Hell, next thing you know I'll probably be buying your damned books. (I'm not a history 'buff', but WWII of interest to me because I'm a son of the Greatest Generation and my father, his brothers, my mother's older sister and her husband all served.) Have much enjoyed what I've read here about the subject.
Racism comes in many colors.
Sadly true.
Perhaps more accurately and more sadly, it comes in every color.
It always amazes me, in this day and age of ubiquitous technology, that public "servants" think anything will remain private!!!

Or switch parties.
Exactly right.
Amazingly productive TC; three important writings in one night!

Seriously, props for that.
