The lede in the NYT report says it all: “Without comment or any noted dissents, the court issued a one-sentence statement that amounted to a stinging rebuke to the former president.”
I suspect that Mr. Justice Thomas referred the matter to the whole Court without a dissenting note in order to safely remove himself from both the issue and an uncomfortable conversation with his "best friend".
“Without comment or any noted dissents, the court issued a one-sentence statement that amounted to a stinging rebuke to the former president.” (TC) The Supreme Court rejected the former president's request to intervene in the litigation over documents seized from his Florida estate.
The Supreme Courts' rejection of the former president's request, the powerful final hearing by the 1/6 House Investigative Committee, which unanimously voted to subpoena DJT to testify and the failures of the FBI and, perhaps, the Secret Service, in preparation and conduct to protect The Capitol bring Trump closer to the arm of Justice.
Isn't the protection of our national security an important handle for Democrats running for office in the midterms? The security of our country was comprised. What is more important than this? What about the two together – intelligence of our country and the rights of American citizens as the major theme of the midterms? Trump's control of the Republican Party and the degree to which they threaten our national security and personal rights spell out in large measure what we the people face.
TC, Surprising news! Can’t wait for your additional thoughts. This move by SCOTUS feels to me like very bad news for M. l’Orange. A door slamming. I live with the hope that his traitorous crimes against our country will be prosecuted in a court of law. ❤️🤍💙
actually, I'm not surprised...there's just sooo much precedent about this kind of thing. and yeah, they've gotta be pretty sick of him. I wonder if they had to read Clarence the riot act. TFF seems to be having a terrible day.
TC, The following in the NY Times just broke. I don't know that you've had a chance to read it but another clear indication that the DOJ is aggressively forging ahead.
'U.S. Asks Court to End Special Master Review of Files Seized From Trump'
'The Justice Department asked an appeals court on Friday to end a special master review of thousands of documents that the F.B.I. seized from former President Donald J. Trump’s Florida estate, arguing that a federal judge had been wrong to intervene in its investigation into Mr. Trump’s hoarding of sensitive government records.'
'In a 53-page brief before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, in Atlanta, the Justice Department broadly challenged the legal legitimacy of orders last month by Judge Aileen M. Cannon, who blocked investigators from using the materials and appointed an independent arbiter to sift them for any that are potentially privileged or Mr. Trump’s personal property.'
'The Justice Department already succeeded in persuading a panel of the Atlanta-based court to exempt about 100 documents marked classified from Judge Cannon’s move — a decision the Supreme Court declined to overturn this week. In its new filing, the Justice Department asked the appeals court to reverse her order for the remaining 11,000 or so documents.'
“This court has already granted the government’s motion to stay that unprecedented order insofar as it relates to the documents bearing classification markings,” the filing said. “The court should now reverse the order in its entirety for multiple independent reasons.”

I am hoping for indictments before my first ski this winter ❄️
Cross country or downhill?
X/C if my second new knee and rebuilt foot with more screws than Home Depot cooperate.
Ow! Hope So. What is winter without X/C? Live in northern Michigan but may have to go to UP or Canada anymore.
We have an ankle replacement in the family now. Doing great but he just made the decision at almost 71 to give up baseball - like real hardball.
Is it spring again? I think I just felt a breath of fresh air.
More the smell of soapy water. This is the court washing its hands of him.
Yep. Using that old fashioned soap…Lava.
Remember it?
🗽
"Grandma's Lye Soap" - "and he hasn't heard a word in forty years!" :-)
Unfortunately, yes!
actually, I'm not surprised...there's just sooo much precedent about this kind of thing. and yeah, they've gotta be pretty sick of him. I wonder if they had to read Clarence the riot act. TFF seems to be having a terrible day.
fuck him.
Well, dang. Knock me over with a feather!
Looking forward to reading what you have to say, TC
Further evidence that courts are getting wise to Trump’s tactics of using the courts to defeat the law by running out the clock.
Like what the judge in NYC said the other day in the E. Jean Carrol case. "You have had your bite at the apple."
“No Stairway: Denied”
Guess SCOTUS has some shame after all?
