As Carol said this all remind me of the Cuban Missile Crisis. After growing through the duck and cover days I was so very concerned about the Cuban situation. I lived in downtown San Diego at the time and had a very visual reminder due to the missing of the usual high number of Sailors. Streets seemed eeriealy so empty and a visual reminder of the situation. I pray we will never have a nuclear issue ever!

We were aware of the serious of the situation when was told of the immediate recall of all the sailors. Was not aware of the number of ships involved. No wonder the streets were empty. Thank you for sharing that detail.
