On July 10, 1940, as France reeled before the Nazi blitzkrieg, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini - believing Germany would be victorious - declared war on France and Britain.
--Decisive and reasoned action and howling, bigotry-based, incisors in the neck of democracy.
--An educated, cosmopolitan man of compassion and goodwill and an intellectual black hole at the center of his own universe.
--A leader as both sentinel and clarion of national aspirations and a C-grade thespian who "struts and frets his hour upon the stage."
--An articulate, clear-eyed Democrat and a screeching repository of the grievances of the mob.
--A disabled man who forged ahead through life's rough terrain and a slacker who never did a difficult thing in his life, and who even skipped the easy things.
This exercise makes me weep over what the US has become, Tom; otherwise, I could make this at least a 1,000 worder.
How very prescient you are to compare chump with FDR. As much as the republicans have tried to sully his name, he was America’s shinning light on the hill when the chips were down. He stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Miss Liberty in epitomizing America’s welcoming strength and courage. A flawed nation to be sure, but the undercurrent of courage was tapped and so many rose to the challenge. The Mussolini’s were overcome at great cost but the country had buried the American Nazis for a while.
Sadly we are back to the fight. Our history can remind us of the courage we had and the needs of today. Thank you for this…
Watching us commit national suicide is giving me agita. And now my Democratic Senator, Fetterman, is blasting his own party for supporting “riots and chaos” in L.A. Sitting here in my calm living room, it feels like fiddling while Rome burns.
What a disappointment he has been. Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz were favorites of mine way back. Their current crap is unconscionable and has been since the chump magnet.
Thanks for keeping up with everything and your keen insight.
I’m up to my ears in handling my sister’s estate, she was in the middle of doing my dad’s estate. So I have to do them both and our lawyer died. Two probates in two states.
So 12 million plus men AND WOMEN in the armed forces at that time! Good thing our current Sec/Def wasnt in office - we likely never would have won the war!!! PLUS the men AND WOMEN in other countries!

Our nation’s leaders have moved from honor, service and sacrifice to depravity, greed and cowardice in less than a century. My heart breaks.

I am so incredibly pissed that I wrote so many cards on my own dime for Fetterman!

In Texas too
In Florida as well.
Great juxtaposition of leadership.
I hope y’all are ok in LA.

Oh my! Good luck to you. It does seem as though when it rains, it pours.
