Roy is unique and unmatched. The look on Bruce's face is priceless. The whole crew is just wallowing in his talent. I watched the whole show a few years ago. Sooo good. And you were there? OY!

Maybe tonight I'll just put the TV on mute and fire up some Roy...good plan?

Funny story about Bruce: at the time a producer was trying to make "Monkey Year" and he was trying to get permission to use "Born In The USA" in it as a selling point. So I thought I would see if I could move the ball at the afterparty. Managed to catch him by himself for a moment (hard to do in those days) and introduced myself and started to mention the script. Before I got any further, he said, "You're the guy that wrote that movie they sent me the script for. Sorry it's taken so long but I'm touring and I just read it. Tell your guy to contact my management. It's good." The moment was gone and he was off with others. But Bruce Springsteen liked my Vietnam movie. Which went on to sink seven studio presidents who wanted to make it before it finally ended up noted in American Film as "the best unproduced Vietnam script in Hollywood."

I assume that, because they put it that way, it's a dead issue. but, as I recall (although in my dotage, I can't remember any specific titles) haven't a few great unproduced scripts eventually been produced?

of course (as I just reminded myself) that was when the "big movies" weren't mostly based on comic books.

That was "a movie of its time," and its time is not now.

Yeah, that could work.

A hug of love to TCinLA for being full surprises and for breaking through an anxious wall. : - )

Black and White Nights is one of my favorites, and you should hear my 7-year-old grandson singing Pretty Woman" with Roy Orbison.

Roy does that to people.

Roy Orbison was the very first 45 record I bought as a young teen...maybe pre-teen. It was probably Pretty Woman, but my memory isn't what it used to be.

Let's talk about age and failing memories. My first 45 record was Elvis Presley 'Love Me Tender" and following shortly was "Daddy's Little Girl" by was it Patty Page? And there you have the psychosis of the 1950's. Oh, dear.

Paying attention to the lyrics from our youth is horrifying....such as "I want to be Bobby's girl". Why?? Lol.

Paying attention to just about anything from my youth is fairly horrifying.

I actually laughed out loud.

perfectly true. but when I start to tell stories about back in those days, a lot of the bad shit seems to filter itself out. I was caught in the middle of a gunfight once, and it ALWAYS sounds funny, even the part about me hitting the ground and praying really LOUD, which leads me to think that my fourth grade teacher might have been right about there being "no atheists in the foxholes." in which case, that's the ONLY thing she was ever right about.

I'll say this about "those days," and some of them were some pretty rough road, they have produced an endless supply of great stories.

mine was "Handy Man." needless to say, I had no idea what it was really about. I also had no idea what all that grunting and groaning in "What'd I Say?" was about.

like most of us, I eventually got it. and there is no going back, despite the fact that I'd LOVE to buy back a quarter century or so.

and thanks, Tom....your scheme is working. I snuck a quick look at MSNBC a few minutes ago, when I returned after walking the much-discussed dogs, but turned it off very quickly.

that the completely monstrous Lee Zeldin has any sort of shot in this state is terrifying, but there I go again.

and, until my Disney-rich BFF of 60 years shows up in an hour or so for an old movie or two, just posting on here is a fabulous way to spend the time.

You were there?!!! This just cements it for me. Saw clips on PBS recently and was stuck on it and Roy Orbison. Wonderful.

Lordy TC, just found the DVD I copied off PBS many years ago, they were having so much fun. It’s what will keep me from tuning in to the blathering pols tonight. Love Bruce, he is the guy behind one quote that I posted often before Twitter decided that my distaste for chump violated their “community standards.” From mid 2016 if memory serves… “When you let that genie out of the bottle - bigotry, racism, intolerance - they don’t go back in the bottle that easily if they go back in at all. Whether it’s a rise in hate crimes, people feeling they have license to speak or behave in ways that previously were considered un-American and are in-American. That’s what he’s appealing to. My fears are that those things find a place in ordinary, civil society.” Don’t remember where this came from, but he was prescient in my view. BTW, his autobiography is a keeper. Thank you, this post alone worth the price of subscription…

You succeeded! For as long as it took me to enjoy your walk down memory lane and to listen to Roy, I WAS able to forget about the trauma that is today. Thank you.

You lucky lucky bastage TC. I envy you, to have been there and experienced that in person (despite my dismay at the criminal waste of talent having Bonnie Raitt's voice hiding way back in the mix). I think that live version of Dream Baby is the best, most rock n roll I have ever heard. Fandamntastic. Thanks.
