Looking through the upcoming attractions list, Turner Classic Movies has a couple things worth catching (again). “Network” is on middle of the night Tue-Wed, good to record it and watch again with a 2024 POV of the “mee-dee-yaaa.”
If you never saw Francis Ford Coppola’s cut of “Apocalypse Now,” it’s also on later in the week . The film is a monument to ego confronting moviemaking in the Third World.
MGM+ has the four shows from last season of “Billy The Kid”, heading into the final season next month. You can catch them on streaming. If you didn’t catch the entire series, it’s available on streaming, and this is the TRUE STORY of Billy The Kid as I heard it at age 10 from an old cowboy my uncle knew in New Mexico who had ridden as a kid with the Regulators in the Lincoln County War and knew Billy.
Also, they are rebroadcasting last year’s “A Spy Among Friends,” the story of Kim Philby, the most dangerous Soviet turncoat of the Cold War. You can catch the eight episodes on streaming and I highly recommend this one.
And, if you haven’t see “Shogun,” you owe it to yourself to go record the streamer episodes and binge it - the final episode is Tuesday. I can’t recomment this one highly enough - best new show of 2024! Available for streaming on Hulu. Amazin production value and the history of the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunate (“Lord Toronaga” in the show is based on Tokugawa) is accurate. Episode 9 last week really took my breath away with its intensity and shocking conclusion.
And also, Showtime’s “A Gentleman in Moscow” is really good, as is HBO’s adaptation of “The Sympathizer” - both on tonight and they have a rebroadcast of last week’s show (Episode 1 of The Sympathizer) you can catch.
