The Trump record:
91 criminal charges
26 sexual assault allegations
6 bankruptcies
5 draft deferments
4 indictments
2 impeachments
1 finding of rape
I convicted company
1 fake university shut down
1 fake charity shut down
$25 million fraud settlement
$5 million sexual abuse settlement
$2 million charity abuse settlement
Not to mention once being caught at age 10 throwing rocks at a toddler in a playpen next door.
And in the Quinnipiac poll last week, Trump leads DeSantis by.... 39 points. He gets support from 57% of GOP voters.
The Fox News poll gives Trump a 37-point lead over DeSantis.
And even this doesn’t bring them around:
The AP/NORC poll released last this week finds nearly two thirds of Americans - 64% - would definitely or probably not support Trump in a general election.
And yet that same poll shows an overwhelming majority of GOP voters - 63% - still want Trump to run again.
That’s UP eight points from the 55% who said so in April after Trump was indicted in New York..
There’s more.
The same poll, found that 20% of Americans said they believed Trump did “nothing wrong” in each of his four legal cases.
21% said he did “nothing wrong” on January 6! In both the classified documents case and the Georgia case it was 15 percent who say he did “nothing wrong.” 14% said Trump did “nothing wrong” in the Manhattan case involving an alleged coverup of hush money payments, in which he is “unindicted co-conspirator No. 1".
In all four cases, pollsters found that the “truest of the true believers in Trump’s denials,” constituted only 7% of Americans overall and just 16% of Republicans.
Only 10% of Repuiblicans believe Trump broke the law in each case.
As if you needed it, here’s further evidence the GOP base has become a cult. In a lengthy story about the “DeSantis Slump,” the New Yorker’s Benjamin Wallace-Wells includes this nugget:
“Even attaching Trump’s name to an otherwise effective message had a tendency to invert the results, this source said. If a moderator said that the COVID lockdowns destroyed small businesses and facilitated the largest upward wealth transfer in modern American history, 70% of Republicans surveyed would agree. But, if the moderator said that Trump’s COVID lockdowns destroyed small businesses and facilitated the largest upward wealth transfer in modern American history, the source said, 70% would disagree.”
Following Trump’s indictment and arraignment in Washington for attempting a coup against the government he took an oath to protect and serve, a Texas woman was charged with threatening in a voicemail to kill the federal judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s criminal case in Washington, DC.
Abigail Jo Shry is charged with “Transmission in Interstate or Foreign Commerce of any Communication Containing a Threat to Injure the Person of Another.” She is being held in detention pending trial, according to court documents, and a bond hearing has been set for September 13. She said: “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you, so tread lightly, b*tch. You are in our sights, we want to kill you.”
And still, last week Trump released a video in which he attacked special prosecutor Jack Smith as a “deranged lowlife” for obtaining Trump's Twitter feed. This is the kind of statement that should cause Judge Chutkan to remand Trump into custody.
A recent CBS/YouGov poll asked Trump voters the question “Who do you feel what they tell you is true” The answers are shocking:
Trump: 71%
Friends and Family: 63%
Conservative media figures: 56%
Religious leaders: 42%
Then, those respondents who said truth was important to them were asked who they were voting for in the primaries. This won’t shock you:
Trump: 61%
DeSantis: 17%
Ramaswamy: 6%
Pence: 5%
Scott: 4%
Most of them claim to be religious Christians, yet they picked Trump The Truth Teller over their religious leaders by a margin of 29 points.
And 61% of these morons say Trump would “definitely” beat Joe Biden in a general election next year, according to the same CBS poll.
They. Are. A. Cult.
There is however, a slice of good news: A new poll by Joel Benenson, the pollster for Barack Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns, which finds that Trump’s legal troubles could prove fatal in a general election. It finds 24% of Republicans say the charges make them less likely to vote for Trump against President Joe Biden; an accompanying memor states this is “more than enough to swing a close general election. He is in a much weakened position than he was even compared to 2020, which is the election he lost.”
So far, I haven’t met any of that 24%, but I know a helluva lot of the 61%.

At least we have a rough idea of how many nutballs are out there waiting to shoot us when the Golden Golem of Greatness, as James Howard Kunstler called Trump, is remanded and outfitted in an orange jumpsuit to match his ugly combover.
To be honest, I don’t know if this is good news or bad news. Bad in that so many Americans are thoroughly and utterly deranged. Good in that if Trump is the nominee we will very likely avert an existential threat to the country.
