"Senator Adam Schiff says he is confident Trump will screw up, stir up public opposition with this issue or that, and generally do the work of making himself unpopular." This attitude concerns me; it's the same position the GOP 'leadership' took in 2015 and they ended up with the Felon and failed insurrectionist as their nominee. Next in line were the Democrats in 2016 who were so confident in Hilary and that Trump would self-destruct that they campaigned poorly and lost a thoroughly winnable election. We've ceded the public arena to the Mumpista clown car since Nov. 6 and it's time we got out front with an aggressive presentation of a positive agenda and the formation of a People's Cabinet to monitor and counter everything the incoming error barrage throws up.

Amen, amen, amen. And the noisier that aggression is the better. Receding into the drywall accomplishes nothing, least of all teeing up for the midterms.

Thanks TC. You are back in form—-and the crazies are getting crazier (is that really possible???). Bannon and Musk may tank the whole thing (fantasy!).

Excellent commentary Tom. I

also read a short note in The

Guardian that some nimrods

in the republican house are

circulating a bill to buy

Greenland. How dumb can

they be! Dumber is my guess.

Dave Conant - MO's avatar

Careful what you ask for Victoria. Republicans tend to view questions like that as a challenge.

in today's NYT, the over-educated schmuck Bret Stephens actually seems to think this Greenland thing is some kind of good idea. he didn't weigh in on an invasion, but who the fuck knows with these scumbags?

...and I still get this POS paper delivered.

and now I'm dutifully (super dutifully, but it's gonna end soon, at least on my end) watching this Hegseth train wreck (shouldn't his insistence on "the wet look" be instantly disqualifying?) "defend" himself.

fuck him.

Just when our spirits are struggling, you brighten the mood with logic. Thank you for updating reality. The photo taken in the cathedral during President Carter’s service, showing former occupants of the White House alongside the incoming (again) Himself and Melania, said it all. As we have learned, Himself is never anything but deeply unhappy to outright miserable. Never.

I love the photo of the notables, in the first two rows, in which the person seated to Obama's left is invisible behind the base of a pillar.

The GOP gets themselves elected and reelected via their poopkicking cussedness, their stylistic outrage at the existence of conjured up culture locusts. They are to governing as acrobats are to eye surgery.

NOTE: Tomorrow at 9:30 AM the Fox guy gets grilled to see if he's got the goods to be head of the DOD or if he's just one of millions of GIs and vets who enjoying griping about the US Military. Sen. Warren will be dealing with him in the Principal's Office.

You’re baaaack! Stench of lame duck, indeed. Watch out for hamberders, open windows and airplanes.

Thank you, Tom for this witty and well informed article. This is my hope too, if they just battle each other until November 2026, AND we get rid of the useless leadership in the Democratic party committees, we stand a pretty good chance of saving our Democracy. We Democrats need to return to the all inclusive party of FDR and Harry - no more dreams of entering politics to get rich and fixed for life.

I read the Santa Ana winds has picked up again, how goes the fire situation?

The thing with toddlers running the classroom is that nothing meaningful gets done in utter chaos. Say what they will about Nancy Pelosi, the GOP has no one with the iron discipline to keep their House members united and focused like she did. Add to the rancid stew brewing is the meddling by the two cooks/kooks at the top, Elong and trump, who stir the pot and mess up the kitchen. Any odds on how soon Bannon and the other MAGA hardliners axe Elong, and then add their foul ingredients to the toxic concoction in the House/Senate?

I'm not so sure. If money means everything then Leon/Elon can buy anyone off.

That's an insult to misfit toys. They've done nothing to deserve being lumped in with these fools.

I hope you are right but I doubt it. When it comes time to kiss orange ass they will all line up with a rag in their hand.

Of course they will.

Just like last time, they may pass more stuff to enrich the wealthy. Otherwise nothing. Holy Mike choosing "low hanging fruit" to describe actual people is disgustingly on-brand.

The bigger the bundles, the more interesting (to me, anyway) it will be to see how John Fetterman votes on things. Because the more complex the Bill, the more personal compromise he will need to accept.

Fetterman seems to me a complex and principled individual, as many people are only now just realising. Emphasis on "individual". Those dismissing him as another Manchin or Sinema are knee-jerking and could probably benefit from paying more direct attention. To him, not what others say about him. I can see him gathering some small bipartisan coalition, holding the sway together, building affecting legislative outcomes. Or being recalled by self-righteous, indignant, pissed -off pearl-clutchers.

He's surprised Republicans too:
