JD Vance is the personification of Steven King’s famous dictum to horror writers, that “the best monster has its fur on the inside.”
Margaret Brennan: “Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio, does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status.”
JD Vance: “Margaret, the rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact check.”
Thank goodness CBS came to their senses and realized their mistake, because Jizz Davenport Vance lies as easily as other people breathe. He’s freely admitted that it’s his thing:
“If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.”
Remember that? It was only ten days ago! Jizz confessed to a CNN interviewer that he made up the whole “illegals are eating our pets” story. The lie that turned sleepy Springfield into a disaster area with 33 bomb threats, government buildings, schools and commujnity centers having to close as a result, white supremacist gangs coming to roam the streets.
With MAGA, the monsters really have arrived on Maple Street.
Norah O’Donnell: “Senator Vance, you have said that you would not have certified the last presidential election, and would have asked the states to submit alternative electors. That has been called unconstitutional and illegal. Would you again seek to challenge this year’s election results — even if every governor certifies the results?”
Vance: “Well Norah, first of all, I think we’re focused on the future. We need to figure out how to solve the inflation crisis.”
He really is “the devil with blue eyes in blue jeans.”
Hopefully, Ryan in Michigan isn’t the only undecided voter who had his eyes and ears working last night:
CNN Host: “All seven of you came in undecided. One of you made up their mind. Ryan, who are you going to vote for, and what solidified that opinion?”
Ryan: “Well, I’m going to be voting for Kamala Harris. One of the stark aspects of that debate that really stuck with me was when they were talking about January 6th and how Mike Pence certified the election, and they were wondering if JD Vance would certify the election, should Trump lose, and JD Vance didn’t really give us a definitive answer. I’m disappointed in that fact, and I don’t think that I can trust someone with my vote if they’re not going to respect it.”
Trump chose Vance as his Vice President because he wanted someone who would willingly violate the constitution as easily as he would take his next breath, someone who could lie as effortlessly as Trump himself.
However, no matter how effortless his lies are, they’re not too effective when they can be so easily fact-checked to demonstrate what Vance really thinks.
When the question of abortion came up last night, Vance attempted to paper over his personal position, saying he “never supported a national ban.” However, his own 2022 Senate campaign website - still available - contains his statement that he “certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally.” He is on record in an interview saying hat he is “sympathetic” to the idea a national ban is needed to “stop women from going to another state to get an abortion.”
Vance then went on to present a list of “pro-family” priorities - all of which are actually being proposed by Democrats.
“I want us, as a Republican Party, to be pro-family in the fullest sense of the word,” he said. “I want us to support fertility treatments.” (Senate Republicans twice killed a bill to protect IVF nationwide.) “I want us to make it easier for moms to afford to have babies.” (Kamala Harris is proposing a $6,000 child tax credit for families in the first year after a baby is born.) “I want us to make it easier for young families to afford a home, so they can afford a place to raise that family.” (Harris is proposing $25,000 in down payment assistance for families to buy their first homes; Trump’s housing plan relies on mass deportation - a position Vance defended in explaining how illegal immigrants are buying houses meant for “real Americans.”)
Even Vance’s actions demonstrate the lies in his statements. His attempts to convince women that he supports them went by the wayside when he got his mic cut at the debate for trying to “mansplain” over the two (female) CBS moderators.
LA Times columnist L.Z. Granderson noted today: “The first time I met Vance was Nov. 9, 2016, on the set of ‘Good Morning America.’ It was the day after the election. Donald Trump was to become president, and Vance told me he was not happy about it. In fact, earlier in the year Vance had compared Trump to Hitler. That morning in New York, Vance told me Trump didn’t care about poor white people, but just used them to win.”
Vance also doesn’t care about poor white people, as nearly every reviewer of his book noted regarding the way he referred to the people he claimed to come from. Like Trump, he only used them to win his Senate election in 2022.
It was amazing that no one brought up Vance’s “origin story” as the political creation of the Silly Con Valley Far Right Bros. Rachel Maddow took 20 minutes the night before the debate to delineate his belief in the far right fantasies of Curtis Yarvin (aka Moebius Moldbug) who calls for an all-out culture war assault on “liberals” in education, government and business, and their replacement by the far right in a full-on takeover under the leadership and direction of a “Casear” in what Yarvin and Vance have both called a “republican end times” - referring to the final days of the Roman Republic and its replacement by the authoritarian dictatorship of the Imperial State.
Vance’s most telling moment was at the end, when he kept dissembling that he was “focused on the future” and attempting to turn to the never-happened event of why Kamala Harris “censored” vaccine dissenters during the pandemic.
By finishing the debate with this mealy-mouthed silence, refusing to disavow the MAGA election denial that promoted the January 6 insurrection in which a pro-Trump mob to threatened to hang his predecessor, Mike Pence, Vance demonstrated the truth: he is as dangerous a demagogue as Donald Trump, if not moreso.
He just speaks in complete sentences a little more consistently. His fur may be on the inside, but this monster’s fangs are on prominent display for anyone who cares to look.
I’d like to end with this quote from Paul Thornton in today’s Los Angeles Times:
“A fire season (in California) surpassing 1 million scorched acres of land that doesn’t feel like a big deal — that’s climate change. A hurricane washing away parts of an inland mountain city once touted as a haven from global warming (Asheville NC) — that’s climate change. And an election year in which climate change barely rates mentioning, as communities on both coasts face devastation and fossil fuel companies make billions during the warmest year on record — that’s insanity.”
Rolling Stone reports that “Upriver, the creative heartbeat of Asheville and the artistic epicenter of Southern Appalachia known as the River Arts District was wiped out.” Brian Good, co-owner of the Asheville Music Hall downtown said, “It’s hard to put into words how bad it is. To say this is a tragedy of epic scale is an understatement.” For those left in Asheville, the word on the street is simple: If you can leave town safely, go now.
And of course Jizz Davenport Vance tried to say he believes in climate change while he serves a man who says that climate change is a “hoax” that will provide “more beachfront property.”

I hope that any of the newly-arrived free subscribers who have thought of taking the step to complete membership in the community will do so now. There’s going to be plenty of fine messes to contemplate after November 5. It’s only $7/month or $70/year.

Watching Vance’s performance was terrifying. Like Speaker Johnson, he presents as a likable, normal human being. He is not. He’s simply cultivated an agreeable persona to obscure his dangerous objectives. He’s a glib, sanctimonious opportunist. Power is his North Star.
Deep, deep down inside, Vance is very shallow. He's a well educated sociopath. Major deities help us should the Gilded Toadstool® get reelected.
