According to the new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, as provided to us by NPR:
Biden’s approval with all adults is 46% and with registered voters, it’s 49%. The last time he was at 46% was in March of 2022. He hasn’t been at 49% since the Afghanistan withdrawal in August 2021.
- By a 50%-45% margin, Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say their best chance to win in 2024 is with Biden on the ticket. That’s a big change from November when just 38% thought they’d have the best chance with Biden and 54% said someone else.
- Biden has an 83%/13% favorable/unfavorable rating with Democratic and Democratic leaners, significantly higher than Vice President Kamala Harris (63%/21%) or Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (63%/12%). Harris struggles particularly with Democratic-leaning independents.
It appears to even be seeping into the awareness of Democrats that their president is the most successful Democrat in office since LBJ’s first year. Age and experience beats youth and exuberance every time.
And I am absolutely certain that yesterday - the most momentous Presidential trip since August 9-10, 1941, when FDR who had secretly boarded the cruiser Augusta and departed to meet Churchill aboard the Prince of Wales in Placentia Bay, Newfoundalnd, to sign the Atlantic Charter that set forth the Anglo-American goals for why they would fight World War II - is going to boost President Biden further.

I've been thinking about Churchill since reading Biden's latest speeches... Biden has found his voice in this campaign against Putin, against autocracy, just as Churchill finally found his stride in addressing the horrors of Hitler. I believe Biden is calling out in a way that we've not heard from an American leader since Martin Luther King. I believe we're witnessing a legend in the making, one that can turn the tides that have been threatening our democracy at home.
Thanks for a summary of the awakening of somnolent Democrats. Yes, the trip to Kiyv is one for the history books. That is what heros are made of----a man who walks openly down the street in Kyiv with Pres. Zelensky, past the gleaming golden domes of the Cathedral in a war-torn, suffering land that is painfully resisting Evil.
