Sunday morning from in front of my house
The photo says it all - at least for us. The fires are suppressed. If you look to the left of the light pole, there is a low white area just above the ridgeline. That is the smoke from the Mandeville Canyon fire. The morning press conference announced that they had contained the Mandeville fire overnight. This removes the immediate threat to Brentwood, Westwood and Bel Air.
There is a red flag warning for winds gusting up to 50mph from now till 6pm Wednesday, so we are far from over.
Here’s a photo of Mandeville Canyon Friday night when the fire had me freaked the hell out:
A lot of you have asked about the reports that Encino is under threat. From my experience, it seems like what I have been reading is 24 hours out of sync with reality. The fire never got over the Santa Monicas, though the possibility certainly existed from the two fires.
Here’s some shots of the firebombers that broke the fire that could have threatened us yesterday:
DC-10 firebomber
Ba-146 firebomber
DC-8 firebomber
Here’s the Canadair CL-415 “super scooper” in action:
And this is what the LA Sheriff mas talking about when he said “parts of Los Angeles look like the aftermath of an atomic bomb.” This is what’s left of Pacific Palisades.
Ending on a lighter note, Phantom wants to know when this is going to be over.
And I’ll end (for now) thanking all of you for “being here” through this week. Being alone here in the house, I haven’t been “alone” because of all of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Super job reporting this, Tom. We’re doing better in Pasadena weather-wise. Still a creepy feeling of never feeling completely safe.
Now that's a cat that takes things more personally than most others.
There's going to be a lot of governmenting going on in the aftermath of this, dealing with demo, debris removal (to where?), codes for rebuilding, safety inspections, relocation of infrastructure, power and technology, etc. The billionaires will want the land, and the thousandaires will want the actual work. Glad that Newsom and Bass are in charge.
