KarenRN: ADVENTURES IN SWAMPLAND
Last week, KarenRN and niece/BFF Becca braved the blizzards on the east coast and flew to Washington - where they found Washington DCA Airport snow-free.
Tuesday they attended The State of The Swamp, put on by Defiance.org - here’s her report:
Attending The State of the Swamp was a much needed experience. It was held at the DC Press Club and around 500 people attended. The energy full of anger and defiance felt among the crowd became determination to right the ship.
It was great meeting many amazing people who were speaking there. Among them Steve Schmidt, Joe Walsh, and Olivia Troye.
All former Republicans who have embarked on the better path and are contributing more ideas and commitments to defeating Trump and his fascist agenda than some of the old corporate democrats.
Also briefly met Ellie Leonard, former Senator John Tester (Montana), Glenn Kirchner and some Frogs.
But speaking of Democrats…I was so proud that my congresswoman from my district in Oregon, Maxine Dexter, spoke as well as my Senator Ron Wyden.
All of the speakers were inspiring. There was a lot of righteous anger in the room that channeled into ideas for action and joy.
The only regret was walking by the Injustice Department and seeing the orange felon’s giant face plastered on it. It was un-American disgusting.
“Neither let us be slandered from our duty by false accusations against us, nor frightened from it by menaces of destruction to the Government, nor of dungeons to ourselves. Let us have faith that right makes might; and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty, as we understand it.” - Abraham Lincoln

The ritual sacrifice/murder of the Washington Post is a stark reminder of the importance of independent journalism. No billionaires. No oligarchs. No corporate media. No dark money PACS. None of us can do it alone. You are not the crazy ones. These are truly the times that try men’s and women’s souls. This is the fight of our lifetimes, and the challenge of our generation. I realize times are getting harder, which is why some readers understandably didn’t renew their subscriptions. There are several free subscribers who read TAFM daily according to the site stats. If you folks happen to be in a position to help make up the gap, please consider joining the other paid subscribers here at That’s Another Fine Mess to keep things going. Across Substack, authors like me are losing to the Big Names who come here to say the same things they said in corporate media. We need your help! It’s only 21 cents a day. I am deeply thankful to those who have done so.

I would be SO tempted to fire a big orange paintball at that disgusting banner at DoJ.
Bravo, Karen and Becca, and I admit to being more than a tad jealous! What a great experience, and much needed in these times. Thank you for sharing, and here’s to all the brave frogs amongst us.
