After Jim Jordan forced a third vote on his campaign to become House Speaker this morning and lost by three more votes than he did yesterday - as he was told he would when he met with the 22 Never Jordan members - the House Republican Conference took a meeting in which there was a vote on whether Jordan should continue as the nominee.
It was a secret ballot, in which members could vote “yes,” “no” or “present.”
Jordan lost the vote 112 to 86.
What House Republicans will do next as GOP Groundhog Day continues is anyone’s guess.
We are now 27 days away from the expiration of the current Continuing Resolution that is keeping the lights on and the doors open for the government of what is supposd to be the oldest and strongest democracy in the world.
Things only got grimmer over the week. Ken Buck said he'd lost a lease on a local district office to the spite of a Trump-loving landlord. Don Bacon said his wife has taken to sleeping with a gun. Drew Ferguson of Georgia enlisted local law enforcement to take his kids to school.
A surprising development, given the history of the past eight years, is that these MAGA threats to personal safety only made the dissenters more locked into their dissent.
The Big Bad Wolf over in Bedminster huffed and puffed and couldn’t blow these 25 little piggies into the “yes” column.
The walls are closing in on the MAGAts, but being Confederate Traitor Wannabe’s, they can’t admit to losing.
All of Jordan’s growing loss number over the week came from the members in districts Biden won in 20202 and from the less-far-right wing of the party - the people who pass nowadays for “normal” Republicans and politicians who can “read their district.”
Now they have demonstrated opposition to his candidacy. It is now more politically difficult for them to support Jordan as a result.
There are no more votes expected over the weekend; the House will come back into session on Monday with a vote for Speaker on Tuesday. Candidates will have the weekend to put together their bids, and have to announce their candidacy to the conference by noon Sunday.
Given that there is no one else in the House Republican caucus who can get 217 votes, the shitshow will continue.
Only on Tuesday the deadline will be 24 days till a shutdown with no immediately likelihood of resolution.
The Republican Party is destroying itself.

They've been destroying the country, so I appreciate their more localized focus.
And they want to take all of us down with them. Chump’s goal all along, if Bannon is to be believed. Being a dictator of a “shithole” country appealed to them and their cronies. May his huffing and puffing cause a massive cardio event. Who deserves it more.
