Well, the clearing out is done. It turns out there was more to be cleared out than expected, and very little that survived. We’re definitely at a point where I can apply my mantra, “I’m taking charge of my life and creating my own success” to getting things straightened out here now.
This morning I decided I wanted to finally get a new (to me) washing machine to replace the one that broke down during the pandemic. Got a great bargain on an old Westinghouse, built like a tank. The guy delivered and it was easy since the garage was cleared out.
And then…
We tested it and when it came to drain, it turned out the drain was completely backed up. No draining.
A call to a local plumber got a guy over here this afternoon, and after we figured out where the hatch to gain access under the house was, he went down and…
Basically nothing has been done with the plumbing here since the house was built in 1949, other than a couple fixes at some point that are not “up to code.” Then there are the leaks in the pipes. And the soggy flooring in the bathroom I’ve been aware of since it started feeling like a trampoline to walk on it over the past year.
We are faced with a Major Plumbing Project. If it had to happen, at least it happened at the right time. The house is cleared out so they can get to everything. There’s no hospitalized person here now. It’s a good thing it didn’t happen four months ago.
This does mean I will be posting a bit less frequently for the next couple weeks. But I shall continue.

Oh man! When it rains it pours. Sorry Tom. I’ve been through some plumbing nightmares too and it sucks. I hope yours goes well. I am gifting a TCinLA subscription to my niece. Take care.
'It’s always something…' and you sound so good through it all. That's not only because we missed you, TC; it's your writing that makes us laugh; make 'good trouble' and try to curse as convincingly as you do. _ _ _ _ _ _ _!
