As to the effort to spring Tina Peters, I’ve been retired from practicing law for more years than I care to count. But even in my dotage, I’d guess that the Magistrate-Judge relied on the US Supremes decision in Younger v. Harris. The Younger case was old when I was in law school. Given the apparent vitality of Younger, the attempt to spring Tina seems to be so frivolous as to warrant sanctions on the attorney for stupidity.

Thank you, TC. I really need a nap now! My head is spinning! Karen's kitties are so pretty.

Ditto Sharon. Karen’s photos are consistently head turners as are your posts, Tom. It’s now very dark here on the Atlantic edge, but the win in Miami has definitely lightened my pov and mood.

Holly Cow is right. How is Karen doing with 8" of rain just uphill from her yesterday?

TCinLA's avatar

Hadn't heard but I will.

I've been reading the weather reports up there and my friend Jan, in Evertt, posted a sand bag brigade help communication on FB from Snohomoish county where they are expecting ten feet of water above flood stage later this afternoon.

The 8" rainfall was yeterday up the Hood River Valley to the North slope of Mt. Hood.

A bit intense.

Can't count on weather services or FEMA any longer, so I hope the halest and heartiest in that area can help the unhale and hearty. Fingers crossed that all survive and are uninjured, including the beasts and little children.

We are living in a scattershot world, where there is no predictability, except for chaos. Lies are truth and truth is a lie. As did the Nazis, they are trying to indoctrinate the young, as they have mesmerized the foolish greedy bastards and haters of so many stripes. Abbott in Texas ranks as the most hypocritical of state “leaders.” He is handicapped in more ways than the obvious. The man is a viper with absolutely no redeeming characteristic. Of course, Paxton and Patrick give him a challenge as being the poorest excuse for a human.

Isn’t it amazing how many Repubs formerly expressed the truth about chump only to sell out for those 30 pieces of silver, or a big chunk of our treasury. I would not have counted Hegseth among those who formerly had a sane thought.

"Boasberg is zeroing in on whether Noem’s decision to continue with the AEA deportations despite his order was willful, a necessary element of a finding probable cause for criminal contempt." She can use the incompetency defense on that one.

If we have the misfortune to see 47 turn 80 and the Dems achieve majorities in both the House and Senate, I can see 47 resigning rather than developing any charm offensives to get anything done. He'll claim all kinds of false reasons for leaving, but it will really be about the country deciding they just don't love him after all. And after his black overcoat disappears into Copter One, the crime scene clean-up people will have their hands full for months, perhaps years. And JD Vance will have to postpone his divorce.

God forbid until *after* enough Republicans have resigned from the House (and maybe even the Senate) and Democrats hold the majority. That only requires a small handful of Rs and MTG has led the way.

I read TC's blog faithfully, and find it informative, often including nuggets I do not encounter elsewhere. We are on the same page here.

I am frustrated, though, at the relatively common phenomenon that the majority of paragraph consists of a long quote of the idiocy coming from whichever Trump sycophant is being called out, or from Trump himself, where there is almost no criticism, jut dismissal leaving it to the reader to decide what exactly was said was wrong and exactly how.

So, for example, we have in this post the following paragraph, which I have separated into three pieces for the visual:

With the Trump DOJ continuing to pretend that Lindsey Halligan is the interim U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia despite a court ruling that she was invalidly appointed, it’s hard to see how the district judges can continue not to appoint an interim U.S. attorney, especially with ongoing public attacks on them like this from Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blancheon Xitter:

“Certain district court judges and magistrate judges in the Eastern District of Virginia are engaging in an unconscionable campaign of bias and hostility against U.S. Attorney Lindsay Halligan and her line AUSAs. Lindsey and our attorneys are simply doing their jobs: advocating for the Department of Justice’s positions while following guidance from the Office of Legal Counsel. They do not deserve to have their reputations questioned in court for ethically advocating on behalf of their client. This Department of Justice has no tolerance for undemocratic judicial activism. We will continue fighting for public safety in courtrooms across the country, and we will not be deterred by rogue judges who fail to live up to their obligations of impartiality because of their own political views. The American people, and the people of the Eastern District of Virginia, deserve nothing less.”

Trump Truculence is now the Order of the Day.

As is evident, this long quote 10 lines, and entire rest of the paragraph is 6 lines.

The specific criticisms of this quote from Blanch, without having to plow through the whole thing, could include:

"U.S. Attorney Lindsay Halligan" is misleading, as it implies she is still the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, which she is not, as is clear from the rules governing her appointment as an interim attorney.

"Simply doing their jobs" is only true if "doing their jobs" includes going before judges without evidence, making demonstrably wrong statements, and effectively following Pam Bondi's instructions that are an insult to both them and the courtrooms they inhabit, seriously damaging the reputation of the entire DOJ.

"Do not deserve to have their reputations questioned" is factually incorrect - the misstatements and mischaracterizations and withholding of material information that U.S. attorneys under Bondi now routinely do requires that judges question them in a way that is rightfully damaging to their reputations. Not that you can shame the shameless, but shaming them is not the purpose - it's to get to the truth of what happened.

It is a routine rhetorical flip by Bondi and the entire administration to refer to "rogue judges" and "activist judges" when referring to judges who follow the law, a system of limits and guidelines that this Administration considers as something lacking validity and only represents an annoyance to be avoided.

Just a few thoughts.

I just hate the idea of giving away so much real estate to the constant lies and snark and cynicism of Trump and his toadies.
