Some days, you wake up and check the news feed and you have a smile on your face for the rest of the day.
Sidney Powell just pled guilty in Fulton County Superior Court to six counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with the performance of election duties.
One day before jury selection was set to begin for her election interference case alongside Ken Chesebro, she has agreed to 6 years probation, a $6,000 fine, $2,700 restitution to the state of GA, writing an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia and to testify truthfully at trial. That is a significantly less-severe outcome than she would have faced if found guilty of the charges for which she was originally indicted, which included a violation of the state racketeering law.
This is a Big. Fucking. Deal.
That she pleads to six misdemeanors and has to write an apology to the people of Georgia is almost irrelevant.
Prosecutors said in court that Ms. Powell had given them a recorded statement on Wednesday as part of her plea deal. She has agreed to testify against any of the 17 remaining defendants. Ms. Powell has also agreed to turn over documents in her possession related to the case.
Sidney Powell was IN THE ROOM on numerous occasions when the plotters met to plan the January 6 coup.
Her proffer has been given to Jack Smith and we can be sure she will be a starring attraction in Washington D.C. when Trump goes on trial for his treason. She was there on December 18. In the Oval Office.
And she cannot plead the Fifth on anything.
Significantly, it means that a member of the Trump legal team will cooperate with the prosecution as it pursues criminal convictions related to efforts to keep the former president in power after he lost the 2020 election.
Obviously this ups the pressure on co-defendant Ken Chesebro, whose speedy trial is set to begin tomorrow - initially alongside Powell - to cut a deal with prosecutors.
This is exactly what Fulton County DA Fani Willis hoped would happen: Scott Hall's plea would lead them to Powell, whose own plea deal could lead them to bigger fish without trial dates.
During Powell’s appearance in Fulton County Superior Court this morning, Judge Scott McAfee asked her: “Are you pleading guilty today because you agree that there is a sufficient factual basis, that there are enough facts, that support this plea of guilty?”
“I do,” she replied.
Significantly, Trump has been dead silent since this news broke. I am sure he had two words he spoke at a loud volume when he heard about it: “I’m fucked!”

Yippee! Democracy gains a win. gym goes down. Smile I must. Now I suppose at some point Powell may be disbarred. Thank you GA for bringing indictments. Thanks Tom for happy faces!😅The sound I'm hearing is the plugged toilet finally flushing😅
As a friend of mine who's an attorney says, "the early ones get the best deals."
