Donald Trump‘s first criminal trial is slated to begin in March 25. His belief in Dr. Norman Vincent Peale’s “power of positive thinking” that has had him believing it’s the world that’s after him because he’s such a Good Guy is getting sorely tested.

So, this morning Judge Juan Merchan - experienced already with Trump shenanigans having slogged through the Trump Organization fraud trial - rejected Trump’s bid to toss out DA Alvin Bragg’s criminal case accusing El Jefe of fraudulently paying off a porn star ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Judge Juan Merchan followed up by slating the trial to begin with jury selection on March 25.

This is - finally! - Trump’s first criminal trial during a presidential campaign that has and surely will continue to be dominated by his mountain of legal woes.

Predictably, Trump’s lawyers objected, noting that the six-week trial would conflict with Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign.

Trump was in court and his behavior was quite different than the last time he was in a New York City courtroom, when he shook his head, scoffed and stormed out as E. Jean Carroll’s lawyer delivered her closing argumen. He was muted, shifting in his chair as he divided his attention between watching his lawyer and the judge.

Trump was indicted last April on 34 felony counts related to the falsifying of business records with the intent to defraud. Trump allegedly had Michael Cohen, his former fixer who has already served prison time for this role in the scheme, pay off adult film star Stormy Daniels so she would keep quiet ahead of the 2016 election about an alleged affair with Trump. Trump allegedly repaid Cohen for the hush money payment but fraudulently classified the reimbursement as pertaining to legal fees rather than a campaign-related expense.

Naturally, Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing while claiming the case is part of a Democratic conspiracy to prevent him from retaking the White House.

Before the hearing, he posted on Truth Anti-Social: “Heading to yet another Courthouse in Manhattan on a case that would have never been brought if I wasn’t running for Pres. The Biden DOJ has its top person here in charge. Case should have never been brought, there is no crime. They want it before Election – Could have been brought 3 years ago. They waited until Election Period. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!”

Rolling Stone reported last year that Trump’s team has told him to be prepared to lose, but some legal experts have called the case the weakest of those Trump is currently facing. One potential issue is that Cohen, a key witness for the government, isn’t exactly seen as reliable.

A sign of how much the impending moment of finally being held accountable for a life of bullshit was shown by his calls at a rally Wednesday evening in North Charleston, S.C., claiming Biden should be impeached for “weaponizing” the Justice Department.

“Congress ought to impeach crooked Joe Biden for attacking his political opponent by weaponizing the DOJ, the FBI, and even the local DAs and attorney generals against his political opponent. They ought to impeach him because that is the most undemocratic thing that you can do. This happens in certain countries but never happened in our country.”

This was the second time in 24 hours that Trump has pushed for Biden’s impeachment. The Trump campaign is pursuing a strategy of trying to blunt the charges against the former president by leveling similar accusations against Biden. Trump has described Biden’s impeachment as a way to get even for his two impeachments.

But several House Republicans are beginning to distance themselves from impeaching the president, largely saying voters should decide whether to keep him in office at the ballot box. Vulnerable incumbents in particular do not want to vote on such a politically controversial issue.

Trump’s remarks in North Charleston came after making similar allegations against Biden on Truth Anti-Social:

“THE HUR REPORT SHOWS THAT PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING JOE BIDEN SAID WAS A LIE. ADDITIONALLY, HE HAS ILLEGALLY WEAPONIZED THE DOJ & FBI, TOGETHER WITH LOCAL D.A.’S & ATTORNEY GENERALS, AGAINST HIS POLITICAL OPPONENT, ME! NOTHING LIKE THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED IN THE USA BEFORE, AND FOR THIS HE SHOULD BE IMPEACHED!”

The power of positive thinking isn’t paying off for the boy who got caught at age 10 throwing rocks at the toddler in a playpen next door.
